how many Mark's unofficial fans on earth ?
« on: August 26, 2009, 03:13:43 PM »
Hi everybody !
I answered the last post concerning "buying the delux edition", and the idea came to me, how many of us are "unofficial" fans on earth ???
frankly, how many of us aren't able buy an original album, with lyrics and others stuff ... etc., so what about never seeing Mark in concert ! not even in my dreams. I know one thing, if we could count the unofficial fan, the numbers would be impressive.
There is the whole southern part of the globe who would express themselves and enjoy the good things of the north.

If I realised that the chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in

Hello,

interesting thought. I also had a nearly same one when I read about the 13.000 deluxe boxes - I asked myself how long it would take to sell them out.
Worldwide MK and even more Dire Straits must really have millions of fans. But however - what makes a fan official? Buying stuff like records, t-shirts or
even concert tickets is of course an indication for taking it serious, but a person that lives in, let

Interesting thoughts. We have to remember that fans like us, members of different fan forums, are just a minor group of MK fans. His fanbase is enormous. I'm certain that there are thousands of fans that aren't members of forums, but are just as fanatic and passionate about MK's music as we are. For instance: Most of the competition winners over at MKNews forum and mk.com we have never heard of.

and then you must not buy badges, posters, stickers or t-shirt, and also not box-sets or special editions to confess to be what you feel you are: A truly fan! :D

"Theres Some we like and some we hate....."

I like the sentiment regarding the `southern half of the globe` - Mark has inspired so many fans all across the world. But thats not his focus, and i respect that. He tours and releases what pleases him.
I posted a comment about our MKguitarstyle forum on a generic Stratocaster forum and i was shocked by the amount of interest there was. There are a lot of fans not all joined up to MK forums....

In France, the AFMK (Mark Knopfler French Association) forum consists of 211 members, but it's a private forum (you have to be part of the association to access the forum).
Almost 1000 additional persons have suscribed to our e-mail alert.

You can come an sign the "Mark Knopfler Happy 60th Birthday" guest book here: http://www.afmk.net/happybirthdaymark/, it remains opened until end of the month.

Hi Kaleo74 & welcome,
I think the answer to this question will be in how many copies of Alchemy are sold when  the dvd comes to pass next year as opposed to how many cd's/box sets of GL are sold. IMO I think the Alchemy dvd will sell 3,4 maybe 5 times more than GL just because its DS as opposed to MK himself. You would think that if the fan base is so wide that the sales would be similar but I guarantee you they'll be guys coming out of the woodwork that havent even heard of GL, STP or SL & will buy Alchemy.
I suppose theres nuts like us all over the world though ::) :o
If it aint broke dont fix it!
