HAIM's Now I'm In It and Liz Lawrence's Navigator probably the most pop-music sounding song so far in the show, great songs though. But so pop, oh my! Not even "alternative", but pop.

The Everly Brothers' Sleepless Nights, great to hear that Mark loves to transcribe songs himself, "it took me quite a while to work out the chords for it".

Frank Sinatra's Where Or When Interesting what Mark thinks about Bryan Ferry's version of that song.

I love how Mark keep mentioning his friend Vince, he even got a mention in a song (Basil), I mean Mark never even mention his wife in a song. That's a lifetime friendship, got to respect that.

I mean straight out dropping a name into the song, that's unusual. Anyway, what I find funny is that Mark keeps mentioning him in so many interviews and such, as if we know who he is, but we have no idea. He could just say "a long time friend of mine", but he insists on using a name. I know I'm being an awful nerd here, but Mark is so strange sometimes

Man, Mark could've picked out at least one bad song, but no, after 150 odd songs still not a single bad one. I think this Mark guy could become a really good musician

Ray Bonneville - Oxford Town sounds almost like it came off of MK's album, oh my.

Bobbie Gentry - Eleanor Rigby it's funny Mark says this song is easy to play on the guitar, considering there's no guitar on the original record. But it's easy, yes. Great to hear Mark discuss some chords for a while

I love that Mark doesn't hesitate to bring out so many covers, usually, creative people be like "covers are bad", but he seems to enjoy so many cover versions. And that's great because some covers are even better than the original.

The rest I found rather soporific, but probably need a few more listens for a proper assessment, if I can keep my eyes open long enough!    I must applaud MK on his eclectic taste in music, though!

I find that Mark's taste in music generally tends towards the soporific/quiet/laidback, and I feel many of the tracks he has presented during these radio show have informed his own music over the last ten fifteen years or so.

I think you can make a distinction between a cover that is performed by a tribute band versus a cover performed by an artist who makes the song their own. A tribute band is just trying to copy the original artist and generally isn't adding anything new.
Whereas an artist like Bobbie Gentry who is covering a well known Beatles song has arranged it in a new and fresh way.

It's kind of like playing a blues standard or a bluegrass standard.

I also think it's pretty cool that he followed up Bobbie Gentry's cover with a cover of a Bobbie Gentry song! A bit of cleverness in the playlist that makes you pay attention to Mark's comments!

I agree that Ray Bonneville's Oxford Town sounds like a recent MK song. I like it.

Absolutely, and since you've mentioned it, sometimes artists (not cover bands) cover someone else's songs note for note, this is something I can't understand. OK, you decided to play this song, so at least change something

I love the story about Bobbie Gentry going completely off stage. If you think about it, this might be probably the hardest thing to do for a man. You have everything, money, fame, success, and then you just leave it all alone. That takes tremendous willpower, but in the long run, saves you from dying poor or in obscurity, or with people laughing at you, or forgetting you. The ultimate form of leaving early is probably The 27 Club. Imagine we'd now have 77-year-old Jim Morrison But he's the legend instead. I respect each man and woman who can quit with dignity. Because only time will tell who is who anyway.
