I'd love to go back to Edinburgh, always. I once said it's the most beautiful city I ever been, and still is (and I've been in Rome, Florence, Verona...)

I think that they would want to try it in London as it was planned. Something says to me that they had further plans if it worked well in London... Maybe touring through the UK as the "Last Ship" musical by Sting did?

However, this answer by Guy made my day. Now I feel far better...

Just clicked the "refund" button.

I don't know why, this has been a quite hard thing to do. When damm covid stopped the world, me and my friends had hopes (very little) that the situation could be solved in any way and travel to London on summer 2020 to attend the musical, as far as they were not cancelling it, but in the end they didn't cancelled but postponed, which was logic seeing the way the pandemic was. The fact that they postponed was something there, a hope in a better future to come, a connection with being able to travel to London again, and enjoy something Knopfler-related with my usual gang of friends, but now, that's broken  :'(

This affected me more than I thought. I still have hopes that this is not cancellation of the musical but just for the Old Vic, specially to those of you who hadn't attented the musical in Edinburgh. Those of you who did, all of you know how lucky we were to attended it, it was beautiful, it was wonderful... I'm happy about attented at least the Edinburgh representation, but still sad about London ones  :'(

Just forgive this post. I kind of needed to write it...

I asked for a refund just a week ago, before this announcement.   I had just about given up hope of seeing the show in the near future because of covid and The Old Vic had my £130 for two years, which is quite a lot of money.    I received the refund immediately.

My hope is that it will return to Edinburgh in the not so distant future, which I would prefer anyway.

It's sort of its spiritual home anyway.  It seemed to be popular and was on billboards and plastered over buses in the city.  It was great to see this during its run.

Aberdeen is, I think, the biggest city closer to Pennan and there is  theatre called "His Majesty's Theatre" that according wikipedia has a capacity of 1470 seated... The Lyceum in Edinburgh has, also according to wikipedia, 658 seated capacity...

Appropriate as it may be that it returns to Edinburgh, if the production is moved to another venue I would hope that it doesn’t stay exclusive to Scotland so that it can cater for those like me who live at the opposite end of the country! The play got great reviews and seemed to be received very well when it opened, so I should hope it can be revived somewhere. Sting’s The Last Ship did indeed tour the UK, so I’m sure Local Hero could do the same.

I did think about that but for people travelling from afar I think the capital is more appropriate, although a certain member here may not agree!  ;)

It has to be a theatre which has around 6 weeks vacant, as it was for the Lyceum.  Also,  Aberdeen would probably be a bit too far north for most people to travel, so Edinburgh would be the best.

I think the Old Vic was from late June to late August, more than two months.

It’s a beautiful theatre indeed but people aren’t going to travel here just to see a show (normal people anyway :) )

You need somewhere easily accessible to a large number of paying customers, if not London then I guess Birmingham or Manchester.

I think that a touring thing, like the Sting's Last Ship musical did, would be perfect, but probably they'll need to conquer London first!

Maybe this time they'll do at the West End, I'd love the Dominion Theatre, in Tottenham area, has availability...

This is the normal state of affairs for musicals in the UK, like Mama Mia or whatever, they do extended runs in big cities then do shorter runs as part of a big tour.

I had tickets last May for Book of Mormon for example, was going to be in Aberdeen for 2 weeks I think.

Yes.

I saw Book of Mormon on broadway. It's one of the greatest things I've ever seen, in any medium.

Well I guess it’s easier to understand than the Scottish accents in Local Hero!

Well I guess it’s easier to understand than the Scottish accents in Local Hero!

In local hero i knew what's gonna happen so the accent wasn't a problem at all, lol

When watching South Park I need subtitles, they speak very fast and as all the voices are made by the same two people, they do special voices so it makes it more difficult!

I guess the book or Mormons would have the same kind of fast speaking...
