I always thought that Get Lucky was the most perfect record MK has done, except for the blues, all the songs flow quietly and there is not a single bad song on it, all songs are beautiful, perfectly arranged and sum all what MK wanted to be as a solo artist, and in this record, he manages to show it. It's like all his previous records were the steps that would lead him into that perfection, and the next ones, trying to achieve something else.

Great post! I remember Guy saying he thought YCBTH didn’t quite fit in with the rest of the album but obviously not his decision. The lyrics and the guitar are so rich.
BR is a lovely Celtic opener, SFFTC and CMG have great guitar, PTTE/Monteleone/BGAT all have lovely well crafted lyrics.
It’s a super album.

@MagicElliott - I agree with your post entirely, but the acronyms drive me crazy!    ;D

I’m sorry!! Sometimes I read posts on here and have to look up the albums to work out which song the poster means. I always felt guilty for that though as I assumed that everyone else’s knowledge of MK’s catalogues was much greater than mine.

I can confirm it's hard to grasp even for get-a-lifers like me :lol I think it's better to use shortened one word versions of song names, like Romeo, Paraguay, Clyde, Piper, Gas & TV. They use this method to write down setlists for the show themselves.

That's OK!  :)    I do know the songs on the albums very well, but I still have to look them up for some of the titles - mainly those that are not mentioned a lot.  Incidentally, I'm just as guilty of doing the same thing with acronyms, especially when I'm in a hurry!   Note to myself!  ;D

The lyrics on SL are incredible, maybe even the best amongst his solo work, but I don't understand many productional choices. The sound of the record is superb, but the pace is too slow for my taste (5:15, Trawler, Everybody Pays, and definitely BLT should all have been more uptempo). Whoop is a skipper for me, and I can't understand the tracklist, which tends to make the record even more sluggish:  'Everybody Pays' after 'Our Shangri-La' (same key, organ vibe more or less the same), 'All That Matters' followed by 'Stand Up Guy' (same feel and the only two songs without drums). One last complaint: worst artwork of all his records.

Very good points here.

Isn't it funny how we all see things differently?
For me, SL couldn't be better. The album sounds great to me. I love all the songs how they were recorded.
Whoob De Doo and all the other tracks perfectly reflect the relaxed atmosphere of this cozy vintage studio with all the lava lamps and embedded in a beautiful scenery.
Mark and his bandmates must have enjoyed this place a lot to bring out such great songs. My favourite album.
This is all the heaven we've got right here where we are in our shangri-la.

Is round 8 still happening?

It's not needed, we already know the winner.
You might get lucky, now and then
