I was wondering the same thing, and for a second I thought maybe it was done to strip the DRM off the m4a file. But I just checked, and Apple stopped releasing files with DRM earlier this year. Again, the whole thing doesn't make sense.

And wasn't it you that suggested that it may have come from a DVD in our e-mail group, or am I confusing that with something else?

As far as I know it was first burned on cd and then converted to FLAC.

OK, that explains it. Surprising that it still sounds OK after that. And I guess it says something about these so-called analysing programs.

bwahahah...I just had a look at the e-mail and you said that it may been converted from an aac. aac is part of the standard specs for mpeg2, which is a DVD video standard. So I put two and two together. But it also happens to be the standard for the iTunes store. It's so important that you know this...
