As a folk/country/rock fan, the Notting Hillbillies were just the perfect group for me. All of their songs are great, especially their versions of the Straits songs are great.
Unfortunately I never got the chance to see them live. Luckily there are many videos on You Tube that show me what a great time these guys had together on stage. You can hear that with every song.
Too bad there is only one studio album.
This is all the heaven we've got right here where we are in our shangri-la.

Oh yes! I also always regretted that there was no second TNH album and I always missed the song Hobo's Lullaby on the album.

Saw them 4 times in 97/98/99, all great gigs in small venues, especially Ronnie Scott's!

So envious of that.

What I like about the NH performances is how relaxed Mark is when he doesn't have to carry the show alone. Great playing. The on-stage banter too is legendary. Of all the MK live recordings, including DS, the NH shows are my favorites to revisit.

But for example, Water Of Love TNH is phenomenal:)

I prefer 96 versions with the Les Paul

and I like very much the original version too

I've seen NHB three times - 1993, 1997 and 1998 and each time they were wonderful.   I also loved the banter onstage and I felt that MK was like a different person to when he played with DS, for example.  He was so laid back.

LP for Water of Love, and black Pensa-Suhr for Vic and Ray (and maybe others?).

My recollection (from 26 years ago!) is that it was the black Suhr on Water of Love, On Every Bootleg says so as well, but could be wrong. :)

Maybe he used the Pensa-Suhr some nights? All the YouTube clips I've seen showed him using a LP.

in Lyon july 96, I am 100% sure it was the LP on Water of love. he didn't play Vic and Ray at that gig

but of course he could have played WOL with this guitar on other gigs in 96  :)

I far prefer the DS version

NHB version is way too much country for my taste. I miss the laid back /JJ Cale atmosphere

I prefer the NHB version especially for it sounding so country.

Oooh yes the NHB version is epic! It's so 'dry' on OES....

You and your friend wasn't played THAT often, according to the bootleg sources :)

Maybe slightly off topic, but maybe CW remembers what songs they rehearsed and never played during the tour? I mean, there were some odd ones at the very start, So far away played twice and so on. Who knows what was considered as a part of the show.

I'd be keen for another soundboard or half-decent copy of YAYF from the OES tour.  There is the OTN version, I have one from Munich '91, but the quality isn't great.  YouTube also has some pretty poor-quality versions - any decent recommendations out there in bootleg world?
