The Song That Gets You
« on: April 18, 2023, 10:53:39 AM »
We all know and love Mark's songs, but what other song can you listen to that just gets to you, you can play it at anytime and it just uplifts you, even if you can't explain why, or it's by some artist you are not normally into, for me it's This is Love by George Harrison, it may not be his best known or most celebrated song, but I can listen to it again and again, I just really like, it doesn't matter why.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

I have a few from the 50s that I have always loved.

Sea of Heartbreak  Don Gibson
La Mer - Charles Trenet
Out of Time - Chris Farlowe
Bad Penny Blues - Humphrey Lyttleton

Don't have any particular songs in my mind, too many to choose from. And it always changes... Recently, I stumbled across this version of "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, " which moved me beyond belief. So I don't have go-to songs per se but always keep discovering gems like this. Classical music always works too, when you have monumental things like Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, it's a 50-minute "song" but it always moves me.

The "As Time Goes By" album by Bryan Ferry is also a good candidate. Timeless songs, timeless recording: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_Time_Goes_By_(Bryan_Ferry_album)

Rachmaninoff No. 3 is fantastic.  The pianist needs a lot of energy!  ;D

Out of Time by Chris Farlowe came to my mind immediately after reading this topic. What a great voice, what a great song. I never get tired of it!

My absolute favourite version was played by video game composer Paul Romero here: https://soundcloud.com/paul-anthony-romero/romero-plays-rachmaninov

As I understand, this recording was a grand prize in an amateur pianist competition. Not bad for an amateur, right? But he's an incredible pianist actually, and composer. He composed some outstanding pieces of music for the Heroes Of Might And Magic series, influenced by Rachmaninoff, Richard Strauss and many others.

Series of Dreams - Bob Dylan
Sylvia - Focus
nice 1 song choice. belongs to my top 3 fave BD songs. the other being "Things have changed" which also fits to this "poll" and another which is not relevant here
another song that always gets me is "Echoes - Pink Floyd" but mayb even more it's predecessor, "nothing part 14" from the Early Years box. man, that buildup,....epic...
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Amazing that it wasn't released initially, Bob was nuts sometimes.
