What we know is that MK usually wants to control everything, and in a huge festival like this one where every name is big, MK wouldn't have a say in when, how and with whom to play. I think that's maybe what made him refuse.

For instance the Nîmes summer festival, where Mark appeared a few times, usually programs several artists a night but when MK plays there it's only him for the night because he is a big name and can impose his conditions, namely I want the stage for my band and crew only.

Not necessarily. The Prince's Trust, Knewborth, Mandela...

Rare events, in very distant years.

By the way, with him not touring anymore it might be a good chance of appearance live but I don't see him traveling that far as the US for that

Yes, that's why I suggested this topic. And why it never happened.

Is Mark unable to perform on a stage now?

I fear the answer being quite obvious to me.

For the past Crossroads Guitar Festival I wonder how many artists did the long journey from Europe especialy to perform there.
Mots of performers there are more or less US resident.

THE question would be more why no Crossroads Guitar Festival being located in Europe?
(and why not a single NHB gig outside the UK?)

I remember John Mayer holding back when jamming with BB King, who wasn’t exactly in his prime at the time. I mean it’s just for the fun of it, right? But I guess only Mark knows what’s fun for him and what isn’t.

If the festival is in London there are big chances that MK would had refused as well.
You might get lucky, now and then

In 2003, he accepted an invitation from Bill Wyman. He played in the 2004 Lonnie Donegan Tribute show at the Royal Albert Hall
He was a guest at Joe Brown's birthday party in 2008
In celebration of Bill Wyman's birthday also in 2016.

Maybe he just likes smaller shows that don't scream with ads.

I seems to recall Guy was asked once if Clapton had invited MK to any of the Crossroads festivals and he said yes, but MK refused for this or that...

Yes, I remember that too.

I wonder why.
so "we know"
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Makes me wonder why? It would have been great to see him there on stage.

He’s done it in the past and can’t be bothered now. That’s my best guess. In addition to that, something nobody here including myself likes to talk about… judging by his mobility on stage during the last tour Mark’s health doesn’t seem to be at 100%.

I also wonder how much public appearances MK wil do with the new album. With no tour i expect some reporters will be invited at BG and perhaps a few tv interviews.   :think
