For me, considering the historical releases, this is pure gold, incredible!!!!

Planet of New Orleans was unfortunately no longer present in the setlist when the tour was in Nimes and Rotterdam in May 1992, which is why it was not included, as is Iron Hand. However, the songs that must be presented to configure the complete On The Night are:

Fade to Black will be the Nimes version 21.05.92.

Think I Love too Much and Tunnel of Love will be in Rotterdam 30.05.92.

I noticed this detail on the Alchemy set:

TWO YOUNG LOVERS
PORTOBELLO BELLE
TUNNEL OF LOVE
(SOLID ROCK)
TELEGRAPH ROAD
GOING HOME – THEME FROM ‘LOCAL HERO’

Strange that Solid Rock is in that order in Alchemy.

LIVE AT THE RAINBOW 1979 (Last show of the Communiqué tour)

DOWN TO THE WATERLINE
SIX BLADE KNIFE
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST
LADY WRITER
LIONS
SULTANS OF SWING
LES BOYS
PORTOBELLO BELLE
NEWS
WHAT’S THE MATTER BABY?
SETTING ME UP
IN THE GALLERY
SOLID ROCK
SOUTHBOUND AGAIN
WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING?
WILD WEST END
TWISTING BY THE POOL
GOOD MORNING LITTLE SCHOOLGIRL*
THAT’S ALRIGHT MAMA*
NADINE*
KEEP ON KNOCKING*
* WITH PHIL LYNOTT AND TONY DE MEUR

The icing on the cake for me, I really wanted this show in its entirety. :lol

The absence of Single Handed Sailor and Angel of Mercy is strange, which during this period was forming a bridge with Solid Rock. I still believe that the order of the setlist presented in this box is wrong for this Show at Rainbow Theatre, Wild West End separate from Portobello Belle, since there was a bridge between the two; something similar happens with Setting me Up and Southbound Again

For the show at Rainbow Theater 79, there are at least 4 songs missing that were played during that period, which was the end of the tour, Single Handed Sailor, Follow me Home, Angel Of Mercy and Water of Love, both present on the Oslo 79 recording, a very good date. close to this last show. But anyway, what will be delivered will be very welcome!

After this pleasant surprise, I believe even more that video recordings of this material exist, with the exception of the Live at the BBC.
It is a tremendous sacrilege that these videos exist and are not released in some way, it was a great sacrilege that these audios are not released until then, better late than never!
Let's go down to the waterline!

Strange that they split linked songs (ID & EL or PB & TOL) on different sides…
That means we won’t hear the whole transition in one way

And a shame they didn’t include PONO…

Even when they finally release something that could be really great, there are always some imperfections….

Those songs would be linked in the CDs and digital versions.
You might get lucky, now and then

I always thought that they played "Making movies" in that Rainbow Th shows, as they were rehearsing the song during that period, and setlist.fm says they played it the shows before at Lewisham, but of course that site can be wrong.

The missing songs for that concert could be just to accommodate the songs they played with Phil Lynnot and maybe they had a curfew.

Very important from this show, it was the very last of the original DS line!, the last one with David.

I am very excited for this release, we have been asking for this type of box set for years, and now we have it :clap Lots of new things to listen to on this release, no complaints from me. Hopefully, this set will do well, so there might be further releases of other stuff, for example, there is nothing here from the Brothers In Arms tour.

I wonder whether the timing of this release helps to explain the endless delay in issuing the new solo album?

I want to start this message saying this is absolutely awesome and it's something we all been dreaming about and even more!

And now, the picky fan inside me, wants to write the following  ;D:

I assume that it was Guy the one in charge as he said something about this in his forum long ago.

- ALCHEMY

We don't have information about what date they choose the songs, if it's the 23rd of July in its entirity, a mix with the 22nd, or the 22nd in their entirity.

Why this doubt? We know Guy had the tapes of the 22nd available as he used them to extract "Portobello" for the new MFN compilation, so if he had them, he might had used them.

If he used the 22nd in its entirity, think about it, we will have another new Alchemy! but we won't have the old one in full...

- ON THE NIGHT

We don't know which date they used for each song, and we don't know also if Guy picked new sources for all the OTN existing songs or used the previous ones, so if it's the first case, we would have a totally new and different OTN than the one released in 1993, which would be cool!

Also if he used the previous ones, he might mixed them again so maybe they are more real and with better sound?

I miss that they included PLANET that live was a killing song. The text said they used some Paris recordings and they played that song in Paris at least twice but hey, they included WHEN IT COMES TO YOU and I THINK I LOVE YOU TOO MUCH! That's so awesome!

- LIVE AT THE BBC

I hope this time they used the correct TUNNEL from Old Grey Whistle Test and not the one from Werchert, or was it Dortmund?

- RAINBOW 79

For me this is the real GEMM of the pack as it is something totally unreleased and it has two unique moments in the DS history, it is the last concert/s of the original band (last gigs with David) and the awesome colaboration with the mighty Phil Lynnot!!!!!

Again, we don't know if they used the two nights at the Rainbow or just one of them, and according to setlist.fm, they played the nights before in Lewisham "Making Movies" live, so I always guessed they also played it at the Rainbow, as they were rehearsing the song in those days.

- VIDEO

We know that all the ALCHEMY, OTN and RAINBOW gigs were recorded in video so, can we expect them to be released as well in the future? I HOPE SO.

After years and years of complaing about re-releasing again and again the same stuff, finally someone listened to us, and whoever he/she is THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure. Guy mentioned in is forum he was doing something with live stuff, and as it is a DS thing probably coming from the record company, if they wanted it to be released this year, they might had told Guy this had TOTAL PRIORITY!

Finally they've given us new things instead of releasing the same things over and over and over again.
Let 3rd of November come!  :)

I think the reason they didn't include anything from BIA tour is that they will release it separately

Yes, really good news. I have looked it up this morning on the mentioned Martin-CID-Magazine site. I´m waiting for the Vinyl-disc box. Now it is time for such a collection of well known and rare live-stuff. Springsteen did it very well in 1986 with his, now legendary, 5-LP-Box-set Live 75 - 85. So, now it is time for Dire Straits live.  :clap

Yes, the Rainbow concert is the real gem. We have some parts of it on the BBC Arena Documentary (bonus feature on the Alchemy video release), and it is really awesome. Mark had an afro haircut, seemed to be in pyjamas, and a bit drunk, which results on his vocals being quite emotional, and his guitar playing a bit faster. Down to the Waterline from this concert may be the best version ever ! Would have loved a complete video. It mgiht come as some point ?

I really can"t understand why PONO was left out. Is Guy sadistic ? Rememeber, the very same Guy left "I dup up a diamond" on the Reallive Roadrunning CD, and replaced it with All that Matters !!

Also, I can't understand why there is nothing from the OL and BIA tours. For OL, something could have bit done with Dormund (albeit in mono) and Werchter. For BIA, Wembley 85, San Antonio 85, Houston 85, Sydney 86... could have been used. Maybe as another release ?

Also, why is Solid Rock before Telegraph Road? Surely a mistake...
