One Deep River   4:17

Now the highway is sleeping
The plains are still
The steel rails are silent
Sun's going down behind the hills
And the night comes falling
With the evening star
Wherever you're going
Wherever you are

You are one deep river, old friend
One deep river, amen
You're one deep river, old friend
One deep river, amen

The wild geese are flying
Into the west
And your soul is heading
To its rest
But your light will keep on burning
Like that evening star
And your song will keep returning
Wherever you are

You are one deep river, old friend
One deep river, amen
You're one deep river, old friend
One deep river, amen

You are one deep river, old friend
One deep river, amen
I know the way I can see by the moonlight
Clear as the day
Now come on woman, come follow me home

“Crossing the Tyne is always on your mind,” he says. “It’s what you were doing when you were leaving as a youngster and that feeling is always the same every time you do it. You’re heading out or you’re coming back, and it just connects with your childhood. The power of it doesn’t go away.”

Man, those snippets in that video pt.1 sound sooo nice. Such a nice melody, his voice so beautiful .. I really can't wait to hear the full track. The backing vocals seem to sing that "amen", right?

I wonder if it will have a proper playing-out at the end, an outro, even a solo, if it will be faded out and and and...

One Deep River is the Real Deal! One of the best songs of latest albums in my opinion. - it’s almost o gospel song! And recognition from 'my claime to flame - railroad worksong' with a beautiful deep clean voice! Tomorrow I will write an extensive review! Now just listen to everything quietly.

I still don't understand the lyrics well but I'm not sure he's talking about the Tyne at all...  :think

Oh, how much I am waiting to hear this and other songs! I guess this one is more personal for MK than many others. Especially if it is just not about the river. What do you think?

To me it seems like the river stands for a constant in your life, like the beacon of hope or the light in the  dark in  In The Sky. To Mark, the Tyne is this constant. It can also be a person, the one you love or you look up to, or your inspiration.  The thing or the one that keeps you going.

Soundwise it indeed has something from Follow The Ribbon and I detect some If This Is Goodbye in it. But much better than both those songs.

This song reminds me somehow of Forever Young with Dylan in 2011. Especially the 2nd part (2min - 2.35). It's imo a bit similar to the parts MK is singing in Forever Young.

Wish it had a bit more punch.  Mark is really holding back on this one and it has so much potential.  Such a disappointment when Greg takes over the solo at the end.  I nearly cried.

I agree with that, it’s got the melody just not the punch. A shame.

Should I find a minus in this song, which for me is one of the best in his career, is that... it ends too early. Could have gone on and leave us with that everlasting feeling... Yes, at a certain point it could start with a proper, ludicrious solo, but it's ok for me with all those licks that flow with the music.

Do you know what song makes me think of?
Forever young, Bob Dylan.
Just to say, the magnificence of this song ;-)
