All KTGC shows were recorded as they recorded ALL shows at least from 2005 on.

LE

Are you sure? There were no official recordings from this tour.

The KTGC shows were definitely recorded. In fact, Guy mentioned at the time that a live album from this tour was considered but this never came to fruition. With regards to the official concert recordings, my guess is that they would have made them available during that tour but for whatever reason couldn’t get a deal together with a distributor. Crowfly, which had provided the recordings from the Shangri-La tour, went bust around that time if I remember rightly.

The fact is that this is the only tour from which there are no official recordings. Why? That's a completely different story.

They didn't had a contract with any company to release that tour, the next tours they had a deal with a company (under different names each tour, the person in charge was the same in all companies as far as I recall) so those tours were released.

It's important to realize that those companies made their own recordings (therefore the bad mixes) and that the band recorded every show on their OWN.

I don't want no sugar in it, thank you very much!

Guys thanks for all the info (altough it is a bit off-topic haha) but nobody have ever heard something about the SBE 2002 regarding release or something (did maybe Guy mention it on his blogs or something? I was at the age of four back than so I really don't know what happened or what the plans were at that time.

Is there an bootleg with a soundboard as source? I really like the MK and friends concerts from 2002!

Thanks, Pieter

If you have been reading for years you will know that EVERY thread goes off topic. :)

There is no full soundboard source but there are some nice fan made bootlegs of the whole shows.

Hi,

Personnaly I extracted the sound from this YT video but I don't know if it's the complete concert:

Hi Waldo,

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately this is a video of the concert without the part with the notting hillbillies.

I remember that in 2002 someone wrote that Dire Straits came back for 4 concerts  :)

Well that's right for like 75%, only Alan Clark was missing.

For a few years after when he was asked the inevitable question about reforming, MK would say that they did, for these gigs.

There are good quality bootlegs of these, audio and video, available for free download on Unlimited.

A few brief comments/fact checks lumped together as one.

By the time this gig took place I had been consigned to the same percussive waste bin as Pick,Terry, Omar, Joop, Jeff, Manu and Chris…drummers who made it to the top of the mountain then fell down the other side ….still, good company to be in 🤪 I guess

I know nothing about this show or any recording of it ( or any soundboards of others), or any of M’s solo activities after STP, but I had to laugh at Dusty’s comment ( 9 ) “ once the DS barrel is well and truly scraped…” , at this rate they will be releasing the sound of a chisel scraping away at wood under the title “ Wood from the Wood Wharf ” 1977-2001 ( not to be confused with the porn movie “ Surfing With Wood ” featuring Ronnie Would If He Could and Prick Dagger .)

And yes, I think it’s safe to say that demand for MK solo is stuff is a LOT less than for DS…..I’d guess by a huge margin …..I had to laugh at that observation 😂 ( I’m speculating of course ).

The fact that several tracks appear to have been used as promo items AND bonus tracks on CD singles is simply a continuation of a problem we had almost from day one of DS…...the lack of enough material for the dreaded “B “ sides that were part and parcel of releasing singles back then ie essential.

Which brings me to replies 13/14 ( Cannibals/Rolo) ..I have wracked my brain and I could be wrong ( really? ) but I cannot think of a single song recorded ADDITIONAL to those which made the DS albums I worked on ie ALL of them, which was not used as a B side including live stuff, and where you see “ live stuff ”  you can take it we really were desperate and would literally use just about anything that was convenient, “good enough”  and instantly available.
So the answer to the “ vault ” question is that if it hasn’t appeared by now then 99.99% it doesn’t exist, actually let’s not piss about…make that 100%.
The notion that there might be enough available for a new album is laughable I’m afraid and I can only repeat, if it wasn’t released back then WHEN we needed to, then it’s either not there or just didn't make the grade, but honestly I don't think M ever finished anything that was literally unreleaseable although as you all know by now many songs did get dumped or develop into something else along the way as happens with most writers/artists.

As a technical point “singles” released to radio didn't have B sides or extra tracks ….a bit obvious but I thought I’d add for the dreamers.

Lastly for someone to describe that 2002 show as being “Dire Straits” is just silly whatever M may or may not have said ( and which doesn’t matter anyway ).

Hi Guys,

I just found this video today en I was wondering, was this whole concert filmed and has this ever been officially released? I can't find anything about it on YT.

Thanks, Pieter

This concert was filmed to be used in promotion, and they used "Why aye man" and "Quality shoe" in the RPD video press kit, as far as I recall.

I think the audios of these two and also other one (So far away?) were released as bonus tracks in cdsingles
Well that explains why it isn’t published as an whole video if that was the purpose! Where can I find the live recording of So Far Away? I haven’t found that one!

Of the four shows performed in 2002 under the title Mark Knopfler and friends, only the second, at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London, UK, 24th July 2002, was the only one filmed, in fact, in its entirety, this show that is on the official channel with Quality Shoes and WWM. Unlimited has the Shepherd's Bush Empire, London, UK, 24th July 2002 show recorded from the audience and we can see the cameras moving from one side to the other throughout the show. I watched the videos all four shows and only on the second night was there a professional crew filming the entire concert.

So, at some point, it is possible that the video of this complete show will be released with this excellent quality, which contains the following set:

Calling Elvis
Run me down
Your own sweet way
Railroad worksong
Are we in trouble now
Quality shoe
Hobo's lullaby
Can't be satisfied
Feel like going home
Setting me up
Walk of life
What it is
Romeo and Juliet
Sultans of swing
Olé, olé
Baloney again
Why aye man
Money for nothing
Brothers in arms
So far away
Going home
