Do I remember correctly that the album Shangri-La won the ranking here on the forum? 🙂

I will skip buying STP because it has never been one of my favourite albums.   True, there are some beautiful songs on the album, but they are outnumbered by those songs that do nothing for me.   Also I don't have the means to play ATMOS and I don't really want coloured vinyl.

@ Robson.   You are correct - Shangri-La did win the forum vote!   :thumbsup

I don't have the means to play either LP's or Atmos, and I think I am probably in the majority.  Hell, I don't even know what Atmos is except some fancy sound, which is completely unnecessary and merely a gimmick to be superseded by another in a few years.  First it was Dolby Surround Sound, then Pro Logic, DTS...  It's just a scam.

Atmos is a very different pair of shoes than those you mentioned. Those are indeed gimmicks. Atmos is a modular and flexible way to adapt surround sound to your speaker configuration, and to approach spherical sound, the real sound your ears capture, unlike 5. 1 or 7.1 which are quite artificial. I think Atmos is here to stay.

That's what we all thought about 5.1 at the time.  I think Guy must be on commission!

It is indeed ironic the LP is transparent.  They could ship an empty box because when it comes to proper extras, there's nothing there to see.

But SL did less good that STP.

And WII sounds like so early Dire Straits

I checked and apparently STP won by 2 votes.  SL was second favourite.   ::)

That’s what I’m hoping will eventually happen. Though to stretch across Mark’s entire live career as a solo artist, it would probably have to be released across more than one volume. The one positive thing about the lack of live extras on the STP reissue is that we might possibly see a live album from the tour included on such a box set release at some time in the future.

the difference with DS years is that most of MK solo tours have been avalaible via download/USB. So I'm not sure record company will release some stuff that is already officially avalaible, even if it's not physical.

In other news, do not want to start a new topic for this, John Illsley has released new tourdates. He will play four concerts in the Netherlands in december.

True, though the tours prior to 2005 still don’t have official long-form releases other than A Night in London from 1996. The Kill to Get Crimson tour is also lacking any kind of official representation. We can only hope that the gaps will one day be plugged as is gradually happening with the DS catalogue now.

Just found this too:

John Illsley, bass player of Dire Straits, will do a live Q & A all about his band at the Stroud Sub Rooms in November.

Dire Straits - who were mainly active in the 80s and the first half of the 90s and who are also in the rock and roll hall of fame - sold more than 30 million copies of their 1985 album Brothers in Arms.

Illsley will be interviewed by the band's former co-manager and he will also perform other classic hits from the group.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.
