Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler, Notting Hillbillies videoclips
« on: September 09, 2025, 04:17:09 PM »
Since the VHS / Laserdisc 'The Videos', there has been no new release of video clips.
The Videos had all the official video clips so far on it, creatively blended with nice animations.
I would love to see a new release on Blu-ray with all Mark Knopfler clips combined.

Has anyone ever asked Guy about a possible release of these?

There was the Sultans of Swing DVD subsequent to that, not the same tracklisting though.

I would imagine the demand for such a blu-ray would make costs prohibitive unfortunately.

Do I remember correctly that the last video clips (real, official) was True Love Will Never Fade?

Always black and white, always same BG location, always miming to playback... not sure if I could stand more than 10 minutes of these solo clips.

@Robson: wasn't Cleaning My Gun also a "video clip" (like described above)?

Yes, that's true. "Cleaning My Gun" too :) I was thinking about "Good On You Son" but I wouldn't consider that song a video clip. It's cool, but the music doesn't fit the movie.

I mean you could say that about loads of videos, going all the way back to one of the very first:

It is a bit funny, but it popped in my mind as I was reading the posts about videos. If I recall correctly, in the SOS videos, there were transitions from one video to the next, which I didn't like, but one of the transitions had a David Knopfler photo, similar in aesthetics to the Making movies insert photos. Imagine how far the production has gone, to have photos of David and then everything went down the drain. I don't know if there is somewhere a mix with David's guitar parts, but to tell you the truth, apart from remembering this curio, I have lost my appetite for videos. I don't know why, maybe starting to realize that I can't spend time looking over and over to the same things, if not because of feeling the precious little time I have, then the collapse of the fond memories, by revisiting the videos
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

Yeah, the older I get the harder it is to justify spending time watching and reading things again when there is so much I haven't got to yet  :-\

Sure, it exists. Rockaway fanzine published that screenshot in one of its issues, in the collectibles section. If I can, I'll look for it!

I loved the transitions on "The Videos". I believe most of these were created by Paul Cummins, the artistic manager of Damage.
He was also involved in album covers and other design aspects. And not to forget, he's one of the reasons why the OES album & tour took place, according to what Terry told me.

I always heard Paul Cummins was the tour manager, the one in charge of everything when the band was touring.
