Dire Straits Experience
« on: October 01, 2025, 10:31:07 AM »
DSE are just about to start a fairly extensive tour of France, three weeks in arenas.
I haven't had anything to do with them since about 2018. Over the last ten years they've put together their best ensemble of musicians. I honestly think they are the best at replicating the Dire Straits tours of 1985-92. If you honestly prefer the real thing, that's fine, but Dire Straits are never going to tour again, I doubt Mark will, John's shows are smaller and more of an intimate event than a rock show.
I took the photos on their promo poster.

DSL or DSE, I would like to see any of them in Denmark. Unfortunately we are a small country so probably not going to happen.
I dont care they make money out of it, MK does that as well. Its a win-win.
Cheers Peter

Just had a look, the venue they are playing in Nice holds up to 6,000 people, fair play.

I often wondered if this particular incarnation might lean too heavily on sax due to Chris White's involvement?

No, Chris play sax where sax was in the DS songs, the rest of the show he's playing tambourines and shakers, unless it changed since last time I saw them.

Can we please move this thread to the "Almost Straits" section, where we talk about covers and tribute bands. Thanks.

They can only go where they are invited, usually where a local promoter takes a chance putting them on. They've played smaller countries than Denmark. I'm sure they would absolutely love to play a few shows there.

They've progressed to large arenas in France and often sell them out. It's an amazing achievement.
Yes, they do play a lot of songs that originally had sax (on the records), but Chris also sings and plays percussion. In the show they play at least a couple of songs that are small band, like the original DS line up.

They are coming to Oslo and Stavanger in Norway and Göteborg and Stockholm in Sweden next February, and they have been to multiple places in Norway multiple times, so I don’t think it’s the size that matters.

I paid 56 Euro in Germany, which is a bit more than the local Tribute bands Dire Strats and Dire Strings, where tickets are about 25 to 40 Euros

That seems fair to me to see a six piece band. You have to pay the musicians, crew, hotel and travel for all, venue, venue staff, promoters and probably lots of other things that I'm not thinking about.

Between 55 and 63 euros in Oslo. Not unreasonable at all.
