Many thanks James.   I was watching it today and when it came to Southbound Again there was an extra line or so that wasn't on either my original cassette or my 1996 CD :

"That woman's with her lover boy, never want to see her face no more"

Could it have been on the vinyl, perhaps?  Does anyone know?

I wrote about this once. Mark omits the second verse in the studio version. And those words are in the album booklet.

Thanks!  I have looked at both my cassette booklet and my CD booklet and those words are there, but as you say not on the studio version.

Exactly! He sang those words at concerts. It always struck me as odd.

That line is on some live versions, specially from the beguining, also in the demos.

I always thought that the magic in that record, also in Communiqué and partially on MM and LOG was that those songs were very worked live before they got to the studio. All the songs in the first record were played live on many mamny many concerts, also the songs from the second record, except for Communiqué, that is said to be written while in Nassau, also some songs in Making Movies were played live at the end of the 79 tour (at least Les Boys and Solid Rock) and also TR and the instrumental segment of Private Investigations were played live many times during the previous tour, but that didn't happened with BIA nor with OES, that were songs that arrived very naked to the rehearsals prior to the recording sessions and arranged while being recorded, the same magic wasn't there, probably because the songs were just born.

I've had a delve into the archives and found some very early versions of Southbound Again with the missing words, but the sound on most of them is pretty dire, in fact almost unlistenable.

Everything is correct. But the question remains: why didn't Mark sing this line in the studio? :)
