I just dont get why they didnt play together yet, last year tour MK was invited during the last month of the tour and apparently Dylan enjoyed it a lot, so the logical thing was that they started to play together from the first night...

It does sound a little strange.  The only explanations I can come up with are:

Mark wants to ease himself into touring again by playing as little as possible (which would explain the "zero guitar" sets too)

Krusty has altered the arrangements of the songs they played together on last time around and Mark wants to get to familiarise himself with them first.

I'm sure Mark has to be asked by Bob to join him in the first place!   Maybe Bob isn't ready for him yet, just like he's not ready to play Tempest songs!    Bob seems to be a bit more perverse than usual at the moment!     :)     I'm sure MK will jump to attention the minute he is asked!   ;D

Things have changed.
Krusty has not changed. Weird and unpredictable.
He needs a dozen shows to understand he is not doing so well, so maybe let's get some support to boost up the shows.

It's all about Krusty's goodwill. However as dmg said, the zero guitar 2nd set may hide something on Mark's side.

It seems they do it the same way as last time? So you can be sure that they start with one, two songs during the next few shows... and will end up with Mark singing at the last show. So you could just buy tickets for the last show as well... whereas people who don't like Bob's set "spoiled" by Mark can be sure that the first five, six shows are without MK... So there is something for each one's taste!  :)

What do you all mean by "zero guitar" sets? I don't get it - have problems to keep up with all the posts at the moment too much other stuff to do...

It was I who started it.  What I meant by using the phrase "zero guitar" was that any song that required any semblance of a guitar solo had been removed and the set contained songs that Mark (as such a gifted guitarist) could play in his sleep.

Ah ok. I am not so much into the new set lists.. Only thing that annoys me (a bit) about them is Knoxville... and to be honest, So Far Away has been played better on last outings... the version in the other thread (nice Youtube clip) sounds boring and dull... First thing that came to my mind was seeing them all on stage, usual set up, "same shit, another day...."

To be honest, I don't care if they will play together... in fact it depends on the mood of Mr. bob, and Mr bob's mood only interest Mark not bob's fans or me ... !!!
it would be Eric Clapton or Gilmour I would be excited, but not with Bob dylan (Sorry to say this, even if I'm a big fan of Mr Bob).

I think it would certainly be of interest if you were going to the show but Marks contributions last year were not well rehearsed and never left room for him to stretch out in any way.  THC was nice but same all the time really.

I remember Oberhausen, too, and getting exited about the sheer sensation when I recognized the song (pretty fast), messaged it to the forum immediately and then said to my unknown seat neighbour "hey, that's Blind Willie McTell!!!!! Sensational!!!!!"  :o :o  All I got was a very polite and inscrutable glance....  :smack

Mark's knackered now though.  Too knackered even to play SFA as an encore some nights.  No chance for him to go and play with Krusty this tour and now, after listening to two concerts, I know why .

Do you really, honestly believe that is the reason for him not playing with Dylan? You don't, right? Come on, he'll drop everything and run as soon as he gets a call from Krusty. Which simply hasn't happened so far. I hope it will.

I said it with a little jest/tongue-in-cheek but I really don't know what to believe any more.  It would explain three things:

1.  world weary performances
2.  sometimes not even an encore played
3.  no Krusty participation

Okay, dmg, I see you're disappointed (and can understand it to a certain extent), but re: playing with Dylan I think the story is a different one. If you go and look at the posts on the Expecting Rain forum, you'll see that the Dylan fans are deeply confused and disappointed, too. My guess is that Dylan (not Knopfler) is having a hard time, for whatever reason, maybe he's unhappy with his band, his new album, his own performances, whith fans walking out ... Something is happening there, and I don't know what it is :-), but it's nothing good.

One year ago, after a dozen days on the road, evebody, including our very own GF, had the feeling it could not happen. Everybody was expecting MK to play with Bob since Dublin.
So Guy doesn't see Bob. Was the same last year...  Of course Guy is a direct witness,  but Bob is involved... Anything can happen any time when Bob is kn the middle of the game.
My bet is it's gonna happen.

Perhaps it's the empty halls.  One of the video's showed Mark playing to a front few rows with only a scattering of fans.  Must be kind of disconcerting.

It sure is a puzzler, isn't it!  He could be promoting his new album properly and more importantly giving his fans across there a proper tour.  Instead, he's wasting his time, playing a 70 minute set opening for someone who won't even converse with him or his band! :disbelief

I would think the 2011 tour was a big success and a big joy for Mark & band. If any, I wonder why he toured AGAIN with him only one year later, instead of promoting his own album... But really, I never thought that Bob Dylan could really have problems to fill bigger halls in the US or would get in trouble with the US audience response in general... obviously the Europeans are the bigger fans? Or are more tolerant??

If there are many empty seats then it would appear it was a bigger success in Europe. Which surprises me as I thought Dylan was massive stateside. Maybe its the never ending tour. Or his, to put it politely, challenging live shows.

Quite possibly;  too much of something, no matter good or bad will always lessen it's impact.

Someone on Dime left this comment on the Regina bootleg:

"Good capture on this one.we were there  sitting behind the soundboard in the stands and I must say where we were sitting the sound in the place was excellent for Knofpfler.I can't understand why Knopfler and Dylan did not attract a larger crowd than what was there though, there was nobody around us for at least a 20 foot radius. Probably only  enough people to fill up the Conexus  for this concert ."

Also, the venue changes speak for themselves.  In the clip I saw, Mark must have seen the empty seats in front of him.  Couldn't have been nice.

A sad commentary on the state of music here in the US...Bob just isn't urban enough to sell the larger arenas anymore...even Bruce has trouble selling out 25,000 seat arenas..let alone stadiums. At least PCM has had the intelligence to hold venue size down on Mark's last two tours here...around 2,500...those sell out for Mark and he's peering out into a crowded house.

I would NEVER have call His Bobness "Krusty" in the first place! But since you all do ...  ;)

And yes, the idea of the two of them touring together may seem somewhat strange now, as things are going (no interaction, no shared stage, fans walking out). But I still think it has the potential to be spectacular. I mean, these two happen to be my all-time favourite artists! They should just make a little more of it, and their fans could try and be a little more tolerant. Not easy these days, I admit.

The way Guy's speaking, the only chance anyone has of seeing Krusty is if they watch an episode of The Simpsons. ;D  That goes for Mark too.

Pottel, you could have watched yourself, but I do you the favour:

First time they played together  last year was indeed at Luxembourg, concert number 12, same number as we had yesterday.

In Luxembourg, just to remind you, they played (on the same date as today, Oct. 21st 2011!!!) three songs together: Pill-Box, All Over Now Baby Blue and
Things have changed.

Then they had a day-off on Saturday and played Oberhausen where I attended the show, too and where they played FOUR songs, including Blind Willie...
But I guess you did not forget THAT....

My mistake: I was checking the few shows before, (#9, #10 and #11) and found no MK at the set lists. So I was assuming that they really started at the Luxembourg show.  ::)  But at AMIT mistakes will be recognized in a breath!!  :wave Thanks again!

Somehow I don't think it will happen again this time (Bob & MK I mean). There's no sign of it, Bob seems to be in Diva modus very strong this time...

It doesnt matter if it happens or not at this point of the tour. If it happens, it will be great but it will be a shame anyway all this time Krusty let pass...

During last autumm tour, I can understand that Krusty is weird, and maybe he needed that some spirit comes to him in dreams and tell him he must invite MK to play with him, and from that moment MK played between three and five songs per concert.

But if they had a good time, as everybody thought, and they agreed to tour again... why they are not playing together since the very first moment?

What does Krusty needs to remember how fun it was, and that it was the reason why they decided to do it again?

Does he needs the past christmass ghost comes to him and whisper in his ear?

Does he needs that someone throws to the stage a wood cross with a MK pic attached to consider it as a sign that he has to invite MK again?

Bah!

If a topic about a subject that never happened generates 60 posts, then what will happen if it actually happens?
Now how about a new idea, Dylan joining MK and singing "Got to have something". Maybe even contributing with guitar and piano.  ;D

Let's see what happens next. My guess is a little ups and downs before Mark is finally established with four or five songs in Bob's set.

And after all, BD has a particular way of showing his likeness and respect for other people. He has his own world, me thinks, and sometimes is hard for him to make room for something different from his original plans.

Nababo, I am not quite sure I understand, how this could apply to the Greek situation.  :think   Maybe you could elaborate using either the Europe? thread or the Greece as a solution, both found on the general discussion threads. As a matter of fact, please do!
Unfortunately, most Greeks are without jobs and hope so eventually they have lost already. Ah, and don't forget the treacherous politicians. We are forced to play in a lose - lose situation. But anyway, another topic another thread. Looking forward to hear from you on this topic, since you are a impartial viewer, sort of speak!     :wave

We'll write something in the Europe thread, about Brazil's formula to try to get out of trouble.
But my latest post here was just a joke towards you. What I was trying to imply was something like "if Greek authorities could only have the same inventiveness vgonis just showed, maybe things would be better to them by now". And I just ruined the joke trying to explain it...

Bob Dylan is possibly the most recorded and bootlegged artist of all time,  maybe only Bruce Springsteen is close.
So you can bet the every single Dylan show is recorded.
Just a question of whether it gets posted on Dime or not.
They will all eventually show up  though.
Hopefully the tapers also record Mark Knopfler's set.
