I think MK is really becoming a grumpy old man. Last tour he did some M&G's but at the one I attended (Paris) he really didn''t look very interested in doing so. He played some songs, signed CD's (only one per person as we were stricktly told by PC), we could take a picture with him (no smile at all) and went off as fast as he could. Same with the afterparty in London. The whole band was there, MK's wife and some of his children were there, even his mum was there. But guess what ... no MK showed up at all.

So I think we don't have to expect any kind of things like this anymore.  ::)  :'(

He reminded me a little about those girls working in the real cheap supermarkets, sitting there, having you paying your groceries, chewing gum and no I don't want to be nice, I don't want to smile, because I am paid for this job, not for being kind or smile.

Very well said Ingrid!
I totally agree with you, it`s so strange, the rest of the band is having fun and he`s is the grumpy old man.
Not too nice if you ask me. :(

He was very nice to me though in 2008.   He stopped his Mercedes in the middle of a very busy Newcastle street to say hello and ask how I was! :)   It was a bit embarrassing, because it was rush hour and all the traffic was hooting their horns behind him!   :o   Danny told me some time later that he thought he recognized me from somewhere!

Hey, Ingrid, these are quite clear words, and most of your opinions are shared by me. You know, we are fans, so we wear certain "fan"-glasses, if you
know what I mean. Of course we want to see it in our own way. But let's face it: MK is just doing what he always did for more than 30 years now. The way he produces his records has become a certain routine, no surprises, and every single record since RPD is more and more irrelevant for the catalogue. And the same with his shows: He is not really that fresh anymore, but I don't blame him for that, he is 60 now! But when Guy answered last year: "MK is not caring for fans. Why should he?" Or when thinking of MK's refuse to give us live recordings, the photo policy stuff and last time on tour when there were stories that the Merc passed the waiting fans - all fits together. It is just a job for him it seems - done to avoid boredom. I don't deny him that he is really into his song writing, but hey, there were times when he really tried something... Now every track is an echo of some other older, better,  recording... We are on the last leg of his career, of course, we must consider that, he won't play (live) music for more than 5, 7 or 10 years the most in this extent. So we should be happy enough with what he have today. But it would be easier if he was a little - friendlier, more open, and when the ladies were able to see that "sexy grin" more often... ;)

BTW, Paul Crockford is a guy that I personally think of as the perfect impersonation of this "new" MK. I am not looking forward to the beginning of the new shows, when he comes up on the stage and reads his policy stuff... :-\

However, MK's playing is still awesome, his voice is still unique and his band is one of the best ones around. So there are enough reasons for looking forward to the beginning tour. And I do! In fact I am in a very hysteric mood if I think about spoiling or not spoiling, that is the question the mo....

No offence meant, I might say in advance, and I also do not want to spoil this forum or anything for anybody. But Ingrid expressed some feelings
that I exactly felt the same in the last few months, and I want to support her!

Great story, indeed!  :o  :oNever have heard that before! If that would have happened to me, I don't know how I would have reacted...

Thanks love, I couldn't explain it better than you just did. And yes, that sexy grin is someting I want to see. And yes, the Merc passed me some times as well. I remember Martina and me waiting at the venue in Basel (showcase) It was only the two of us, but he didn't stop, it would cost him only 30 seconds to sign one CD each. Also passing by at Brighton, but other bandmembers even got out of the car to sign!

I really look forward to the tour, doing a nice 13 gigs this time, but I really hope he doesn't overreact too much like last years. We all are paying a lot of money for tickets, travelling, hotels etc. Some respect for the fans is not too much in my opinion. But playing and singing is still genious and we are lucky to have Guy paying attention to the fans.

My impression is that very often artists tend to be quite sensitive. This is necessary because they are able to express sceneries and/or feelings through their art (very often in a subtle way), that may be acting or music or whatever. In some cases this is linked to an introvert and withdrawn behaviour in private life. You get to hear quite often,  that the actor XY is very different compared to his/her appearance in the movies or onstage. So they are "acting" in a certain way while in private life they tend to be shy and contemplative.

So my guess is that he still loves to play and to record - he very often said that in the past, but he doesn't like the hype about the person MK and wants to be a person that can walk along the streets without getting recognized. A lot of songs deal with describing other people's life and their feelings, dreams and hopes. All these little dramas in life.

Or maybe I'm just putting lipstick on the pig but when I think of how passionate MK talks about music and guitars, I think that he loves what he is doing and he justs wants to lead a quiet life when he isn't on stage.

I have to say the first time I met MK he was very relaxed, from all the people in the row waiting for an autograph, he pointed at me and asked me to come first. What a day. ;D

But I want my M&G!!!! :lol That would be the 2nd time meeting MK. :D

I agree with you Justme, and I fully respect his private life and all. But that doesn't mean that he has to act disrespectfull to fans. He didn't in the past. But it's becoming more clear every year that he wants to make music and even want to play live, but he doesn't want to be involved at all with his fans. He should not forget that his millions are made possible by the same fans. And he has to remember too that if we nowadays don't buy his CD's and don't go to his concerts, his fun in making CD's and performing on stage (for only a handful of people) will fade away very quickly.

I think every single one is very respectfull towards MK. To show that: In the streets of Edinburgh (during the tour 2008) I was looking into some shop, when I turned around to go on walking through the shoppingstreet I literally bumped to Glenn Worf. I said hi to him and moved on, just 10 meters further MK was standing there waiting for Glenn to return. I just did as if I didn't see him. He was in private time, walking around the city.
For me: doing a M&G every now and then, do some CD-signing belongs to his job. Not when he is walking around in the city but when he enters the venue for the soundcheck a quick stop for his true fans isn't too much.

I do agree with you, when he does such things as a M&G and it is in my view part of the whole business, he should be a little more friendly towards his guests. Perhaps he feels very embarrassed when everyone tells him how beautiful his music is - I don't know.
