The Beltona MK gave Sonny Landreth
« on: March 30, 2010, 06:13:45 PM »
As a huge Sonny Landreth fan I've picked up one funny sidenote. It's fairly known that MK presented Sonny Landreth with his own Beltona Reso-Electric back in '95-'96. But that was basically all you'd get to know about this, until the great friend called Google helped me tie the loose ends on this "minor mystery".

http://www.beltona.net/nav/reviews.htm

MK: "I actually got one for (Louisiana slide genius) Sonny Landreth a long time ago, /.../ and it's a great guitar. I play it a lot at home. You should hear Sonny play that thing, though. He's an absolute master of the instrument and he is one of those who is really taking slide guitar forward....."

Lee Holliday: "When touring Steves house/workshop he presents me with tea & samples of Beltonas and various slide exotica, but a newly engraved resolectric catches my eye. It was the Sonny Landreth guitar with Sonny,s name engraved (Sol Hoopi style), which was an end of tour present from Mark Knopfler."

Picture is hopefully attached...

Didn't Mark play this guitar during "MK & Friends 2002" on "Railroad Worksong"?

No, it was during Can't be satisfied. But I think it was also used during the NHB '98 and '99 gigs.

Btw, MK's Beltona is engraved with the Golden Heart pendant on the back.

THIS is music  ;D

Yes, you are right. I mixed it up with the guitar that Steve Philips was using at the same occasion.
Could be the same guitar, though:

Thanks so much Cannibal for your answer! :) Yeah - perhaps that could be an option. I emailed the owner of the Beltona-guitar a while back myself and he told me the "not steel-body guitars" also sounded really great..

Is it possible to listen to a sample of your guitar Cannibal?

The guitar looks really wonderful tho! :)
