Maybe to allow MK to still do the fast 'fiddly' bits in the end solo.

Maybe, but if he does a mistake it's surely more noticable?  He mucked it up at the Mandela concert but it didn't sound too bad because it was faster and he improvised a little too in part of it.

He mucked it up? Where exactly? I always thought that version awesome...

I think I'll have to listen to Mandela again, because I have always had the impression that that was the slowest Sultans ever (but cool). And this tours version sounds a bit like the Mandela one, to my ears. (Can't remember any mistakes at the Mandela though...).

Sorry to spoil it for you then.  It was at the so-called "fiddly-bits," about 5 seconds into it he played a wrong note then about 10 seconds through he took a very brief pause and played the 2nd half of it slightly faster.  You can tell MK was angry with himself because of the way he "slams" [not literally] the strings of his guitar just after it! ;D

Ah, thanks!

No problem ;), in the meantime he delivered so many really "mucked up" versions in the last 5 to 10 years that I can still live with this one.

Will give it a new try tonight and see if I find it!

"HFB" and "speedway" for me from all 3 shows I attended.

Just truly and incredibly amazing.  Take a listen to them Oakland, Santa Rosa and Temecula.

Especially when the spot light was on Richard when he basically ripped the guitar of his IMO to pieces during the solo.

Richard is an amazing musician too.  I can close my eyes and relieve that magical moment when Richard effortlessly hit those strings. I literally became one with the music.  I shook my head so hard I'm surprised it's still attached to my shoulders.  And my voice is pretty much hoarse from all the screaming.

Any info about Mike? My friend is ready to leave her husband and marry him . LOL  He plays IMO a very important role during this tour. Amazing sounds he creates.  It just literally melts your heart.

Hope you guys enjoy the Temecula recording from me.  Too bad I lost the end of it.  I was rushing out to the front.

Hmm, I'm listening to "What It Is" now on youtube, apparently from the Oakland show. Nice to hear he plays the first solo again (before "It's a chinking light, it's a burning wick...")!! Let's just hope it'll stay this way. And this is another song that seems to get slower and s-l-o-w-e-r with every tour...

Me too, after all, that's the song that started my obsession  ;D
I just prefer it a little faster...

Mark omitted the first solo after a couple of shows back in 2008, and when asked why he did, Guy answered, it works better that way. I tend to disagree...

I like the longer version too.  I think they just test things now and again to decide which works best.  Hopefully it will stay for the rest of the tour.   :)

My guess is that they omitted the first What It Is solo in 2008 because Mark found it difficult to play. Not many fast licks were played on that tour. I'm glad that it's back.
