"I appreciate the way he creates stories for songs...he's such a good storyteller." and, "There's a point where the guitar ceases to be a tool and becomes part (of the player)...a merging."
These are words from a good friend of mine who had not previously experienced MK in concert. She and I grew up together, but she hadn't been as exposed to MK and his music as I was. She was gracious enough to not only go with me to Saturday's concert, but to provide transportation. And she loved the concert.
Mark, despite being in obvious pain and discomfort from his recent bout with a pinched nerve in his leg, played flawlessly and beautifully through 16 songs. (No spoilers.) The acoustics in the theatre - the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, CT (yes, that's right, and I'm sure it means something...it's an Indian word) - were first rate, and everyone was musically at top form. The audience, bless them, were by and large highly appreciative (another friend commented that some people in the front were obviously not clued in or real fans, but all those around me - and those shouting requests from the nosebleeds - were clearly there for the Man and his music. The band was excellent also. Aside from Mark's malady, there was very little to besmirch an excellent evening. Without too much hyperbole, I can truly say it was one of the finest concerts I have ever been to. You will not be disappointed when you see him, I'm sure.
