Hi - I took part in the MK guitar auction at Christies last year (Jan 2024) and bid on 2 of the 3 MK signature Fender Strats. The guide price was £4,000-6,000 yet they sold for £107,100, £113,400, and £126,000. Needless to say I was not successful.
However I have just acquired a 2006 MK Signature Strat S/N SE01728 which was owned by Mark and donated to a charity event in 2006. The scratch plate was also signed by him and it came with authenticity documentation (there are images available of MK playing it) as well as the original hard case. The guitar itself is in immaculate condition and (despite me not being a lover of Strats - maybe because I have never owned a quality one) it is the most beautiful guitar I have ever played. The sound is sooooooo Mark Knopfler (and so it should be given he helped design it).
My question is that given the prices the three above Strats sold for at auction is there any reason for this one to be worth any less?
By the way - I am not parting with it (just yet) as I need to insure it first.
