Tallgren,  I do get the point of the lyric and I'm still trying to like the song, but it's hard work!   I am of the opinion that even songs that are not immediately likeable, can eventually become favourites, if listened to long enough!  :)

I liked it from the very first minute I must admit, and because of the great "rough" start and the real energetic drumming and guitar playing. I didn't care about the lyrics for the first 20 times  :lol, which is unusual for me, but even after that, when I recognized that he had been written more intelligent ones,
I loved and still love the song. This guitar solo, which doesn't end at one point but is played longer than expected (have not the right musical term for it) is really great. Which guitar is he using on this one, can anybody tell me?

Sometime it is better not to pay too much attention to some lyrics on pop song. But Mark being a writer even its simpler ones can reveal some surprise.

"Don't You Get It"

"Oh, 'Don't You Get It' is really, it's not about, even though it says 'Don't you get it, I don't want to buy your car,' it's not about a car. It's just the idea about buying an idea, it's the idea of not wanting to go your way but wanting to go my way, and it just applies to so many things, you know. If the record company wants you to do something or other and you say 'No, I don't want to do that, I want to do it this way.' And really, you could apply it to anything that you want, I think it's important to be able to please yourself because I think if you can't please yourself then you can't please anybody."

I don't care about the lyrics and I like the song.

"Don't You Get It" has never been played live?
The solo on the studio version is fantastic, it should be ever better in live.
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

No it hasn't.  :(
And as far as I can see it has been the only song from that record apart from Nobody's Got The Gun that has never been played live.
All other songs have been played live at different occasions.

What would you think of "Nobody's Got The Gun" replacing DWB on next tour?

Instead of that we have to suffer DWB for the bazillionth time! I will never understand these rare decisions...

LE

The huge difference is that we listen to it but HE performs it - and is pleased himself with.

I adore, "Before Gas & TV" and "So Far From the Clyde" and would happily sacrifice TR, even though I love it,  to hear both of them live in concert!   :)

BTW, LE, I didn't "suffer" DWB on the GL tour - I really enjoyed it!   ;)

I 'd love to hear "SFFTC" and "BG&TV" too !  "Hard Shoulder" will be fantastic too.  Although I don't know how I'll be able to handle my own emotion with "SFFTC" being played LIVE.  I was drowning in tears when I heard it the first time I got the CD.  What an extremely moving song !!!!
