Apple Ping
« on: September 05, 2010, 11:38:14 AM »
Apple have released 'Ping' a 'social network for music.'  The idea is you can follow artists and other music fans to see what they're interested in so you can discover new music.
It is part of iTunes 10 and you can learn more here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/ping/

I have signed up so please search for me as 'Ian Lewis.'  If you wish to follow me I have too approve the request so please let me know who you are!  I have always been interested to see what MK fans are listening to other than MK!

Ping is new and still growing.  It has it flaws, but with time I think will get better.

+1
I have a Cowon iaudio 7 and an iRiver H120 running Rockbox. Transferring files is as easy as copying and pasting in Ubuntu or Windows 7. No additional software. No store or "library" to deal with. No re-encoding and the two players support just about any audio file format. For the life of me, I don't understand why so many people buy into the idea of having separate software control their mp3 players. I spent five minutes helping someone with the Microsoft Zune software and I wanted to cry. Thank goodness there are other options.

Sharepod is a little program that you store on the ipod itself, it them allows you to drag and drop etc no problem back and forth from any computer. And it's free.

sharepod rules, am just transferring my 120GB pod content i had only left on my pod as the "library" was on the crashed HD. and i could simply put it back on my puter and into my itunes, at the same time from my ipod.
will evaluate and eventually ditch itunes.
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Nice, never heard of it. You can also Rockbox most versions of the ipod too, I believe.

Yeah, Sharepod is great, means I can do stuff like download Simfy shows at work (where I'm not allowed to install software like iTunes on my computer) and load up my iPod, and as Pottel says makes it easy to transfer your music OFF an ipod, something Apple doesn't want you to do for some reason. No way am I installing bloatware like iTunes again.
