How many generations do you want to go back?  Big part of central Europe spoke German.  Triest down to Balkans was governed in German language pre WW1.  All the way up to Silesia in Poland.  Say if you were born in NYC in 1970 and both parents were immigrants and spoke German at home?  What would be your "mother tongue" in that case?

Question was pretty clear: How many AMITers have German as first language. I doubt that there are many members that were born at times of WW1, apart from you of course.

Oh I speak German OK.  My written German is sub standard..40 years ago I had a wonderful Viennese accent too. :lol  Nowadays every time I speak to a native in German they reply in English ;D

I can have a technical convo in German but the kitchen sink domestic stuff I have lost.
