never noticed this, but at the beginning of the song eastbound train mark mentions that earlier that year (or the year before )they were in a club in london and they recorded this (Eastbound Train) on a van outside in the street, and it didn't come out on an album but on a "pub-rock album,....

never heard that before listening to this (good recording of a good show), does anyone know what album this is??
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Possibly the b-side of the Sultans Of Swing single? Wasn't that a live version of Eastbound Train?

No idea about any pub rock album.

Original release of Estbound Train is on the live compilation album  "Front Row Festival"

http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=10823

The album was released in March 1978 and the UK SOS single in April. The US single did not feature it on its flip side but did get Southbound Again instead.

According to Neck-And-Neck, Dire Straits gig during the 'Front Row Festival' at the Hope And Anchor took place on December 09.1977, the same day they signed their contract with Phonogram : diary 1977--79

This is one of the few DS published recording that remain unreleased on CD format (another one is SOS single version).

Our friend, youtube helped again. Perhaps this is the right version of the song:

I own it too. Will sell it if I can find it.

As far as I am aware this was the first ever recording released by DS...

this version was also on the sliver pressed bootleg Brothers in mark

indeed, a nice song to start 2012 (but I prefer the studio version on early demos)

happy new year to everyone, with a new album, and maybe a tour ?
