Happy 40th Birthday To...

Quote from: Bigsby;687771
... my 1968 Silvertone Hornet. According to the serial number it was made in the 37th week of 1968, meaning it turned 40 last week.

As people here may be aware this is the same model guitar played by MK on Boom Like That, Rolling On, Don't Crash The Ambulance and (if memory serves) Stand Up Guy.

Mike Henderson also memorably used them on the 01 tour, sounding great on stuff like Callin Elvis.

This guitar has an interesting tone, normally I would only use the "middle" setting for rhythm playing or fingerpicked arpeggios, but on this guitar the middle position is great for lead. It has a very distinctive "quacky" tone, whereas the bridge pickup is a bit twangy and the neck pickup is a bit muddy. But together they're great.

Many happy returns!

Holy Blue, Dusty, it's a beautiful thing!   Happy birthday indeed! :D
But a spoonful of forgiveness
Goes a long, long way
And we all should do our best
To get along

WOW. I have never been a huge guitar fan, but that is a real thing of Beauty. You can understand how someone like MK and others could become very, attached to something like that. Happy, 40th and many more to come. I love the tonal quality of Mk's guitar work and Boom and Rolling on are 2 of my all time favourites - now I know why.

Yes, Mike Henderson played so much noise with a guitar just like that  :(

And yes, MK played some great solos and beautiful songs with one like this, I
You might get lucky, now and then
