I actually like RCS a lot....all about an Irish cop's love of the city he has sworn to protect. The references to him as a soldier are merely referring to him fighting battles on the streets to serve his beloved town. It's almost cinematic...you feel like your walking along the sidewalks of Battery Park looking out over the Statue and the harbor. The foghorns in the beginning set the scene (Down on the Waterline!). It's not a song to listen to all the time..you need to be in the mood.
As far as best so far for me..tough call..it's between 3 songs.."Bluebird", "Yon two crows" and lastly...the studio version of "Haul Away" was all that I had hoped for and then some! The thing that I love about this album as a whole is the diversity..probably why it ended up a double..Mark just had so much material ...hard to cut any of it.

Would be great if he'd play all 24 new songs during the 2013 tour! ;D

I think you're on the wrong forum;  this is Mark "safety" Knopfler we're talking about! ;D

or "This is the real Mark Knopfler we are talking about, not the one we are dreaming about"
You might get lucky, now and then

Least favourite is Don't Forget Your Hat. Any of the bonus songs could've replaced that, what a shame.
Hey, i`ve got a truffle dog - finally a song the ordinary man can relate too!

The "outro" and the guitar playing at the end of "Dream of the Drowned Submariner" is VERY nice.... I would say one of the best guitar solo parts on the album... very touching and moving... could have been a few bars longer though in my opinion - I love the way Mark builds it up - first a few notes, like a sketch, and then with every repeat some more until we have the complete playing at the end - and the tone itself is also awesome... Love it...

Superval99 I totally agree. It is my fav from the bonus songs too!  :D

Though I must say I don't like the first 21 seconds of the song (intro). I am going to cut those away from the song with an audio editor. The violin part sounds very amateur like. As if someone is playing during his first violin lessons with a cheap violin.  :disbelief
