MK soundtrack music
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:06:50 AM »
Can anyone here who is into MK's soundtrack work help me out.  I'm listening to The long road on youtube right now.  I like it.   There are so many tracks I don't know where to start.  Can some of you recommend 6 or 7 entry songs so I can begin scratching the surface of this untapped body of work.

Start with his "Screenplaying" compilation.

All MK soundtracks are worthy, specially Local Hero, Cal, The Princess Bride, Metroland and A shot at glory.
You might get lucky, now and then

They are all very recommendable imho, but for me Metroland is an all-time favourite. Amazing how he sounds almost more Django-like than Django himself! And the title track is so full of drive and energy - unbelievable. I wish he'd play it live one day.

Apart from "Last Exit to Brooklyn", which IMO is to repetitive, the other soundtracks have a lot of gems. Well, "Cal" uses the same musical theme in such an extent, but to me is a little more complex than LEtB.

But dletm08, if you're looking for selected songs, my advice would be:

"Wild Theme", "Whistle Theme", "Smooching" and "Going Home", from Local Hero
"Irish Boy", "Irish Love" and "The Long Road", from Cal
"Florin Dance", "Morning Ride" and "The Friends' Song", from Princess Bride
"A love idea" and "Tralala", from Last Exit to Brooklyn
"Wag the Dog", "Working on It", "In the Heartland", and "Just Instinct", from Wag the Dog
"Brats" and "Metroland", from Metroland
"Say Too Much" and "Sons of Scotland
Love over gold, mind over matter

I did not realize you asked a track selection :
"Stargazer" from Local Hero
"Once upon a time ... storybook love", "I will never love again", "The friend's song", "Guide my sword", "A happy ending" from  The Princess Bride
"Working on it"  and "Just instinct" from Wag the dog.
