Leaving politics and religion off the forum is fine with me.   (except for my occasional shot at George Bush  ;D.   But if you'll look at my original post in this thread, there was nothing in there about politics!  I had no idea this topic would become hot.     :-[

So now we are just discussing the events!  totally cool.  Yes, Gayleybob, we saw that fantastic finish!  One hand's length to win.  What a sprint at the end.   Globally exciting!     8)

I think political / religion threads are fine in the "Open Forum" (this one). Just don't be surprised if your thread does not receive widespread interest.  ;)
However, there is no point in creating a separate forum just for political commentary.

ROFL Marie, that is right, I responded to Pottel's message.  ;D

Btw talking about swimming.......did you see the 4 Dutch girls winning gold at the relay race? It has been 112 years ago that ladies won gold at the relay race at the Olympics, so this is a wonderful result for the girls! ;)

I have just been watching the news and it appears that the little girl who sang at the opening ceremony was miming to another little girl's voice.  Apparently, the child who actually sang the song was not "flawless" enough to represent the Chinese people!  How sad!  :(

Any more negative reviews?  I'm so curious that people are more interested in this kind of reviews than the prosperities of the ceremony.  And it's lauphable that it's hard to find a cute and lovely CHINESE girl with nice voice to sing the song.

B.T.W., how does the karma work on this forum?  I don't like this word at all.

Hi Allen
Welcome back on the 17th.
The parts of the opening ceremony, which I saw were outstanding. One of the things which goes un-noticed in these events are the thousands (46000 at Sydney and most likely many more in Beijing) of local people who volunteer and work behind the scenes to help to make things run smoothly.
