I still have memories from attending 'a 96 show and thinking of how great it  was to have GH performed saxless.

Now we are (all) delighted to get the sax back  ;D

Too bad that only lucky UK concert goer will experience it.

Thank for the video.

Going Home.  You can't see much but it's full length sound:

Awwwwwsomeeeeeeeeee! That little intro on keyboard! So Alchemy!!! :clap :clap
Indeed, this sounds like Alchemy 30 years later !!
Save for the 2002 charity gigs, GH had not been played with sax since 1986 !!
It was great to have pure guitar in 96, and now it is also great to have the sax back !!

Great show, maybe not the best playing ever from a self-confessed hungover MK. :)

Good to see DMG and Isaac before and after the gig, will see them again and more of you next week in London. :)

As for the set, it was OK but I would have liked a few more "surprises". On the night the only surprise really was Father and Son, but that said I am amazed that 5:15am has been played, need to go and get that recording, one of my all time favourite tunes.

Complete waste of Hitchcock though, three songs? Although Going Home was awesome and the perfect finale.

Welcome back, Dusty!   It feels like you've just returned from outer space and burst through earth's atmosphere, after a communication black-out!   Thanks for the review and see you at the RAH!   :wave

U're right, and this suddenly gave me the feeling to watch that 1986 final time.

Great to see Alan filming the band-members and audience at the end,
and during the tune tech-crewmembers doing "percussions" and tambourine and other stuff @3.40  :lol

If others are having the same feeling:

Always hated this whole concert. In fact I thought it is the downpoint in the whole Dire Strait era.
I always wondered about these .. what.. 16 (?), shows in a row... is there any fan on the world that has seen all Sydney Entertainment shows in a row?
Are they all recorded? How were the differences? Were they all as "good" as the final one?

Never watched the complete show, can't stand it, sorry to say. I prefer Wembley 85 BY FAR!

That is true! Of course I love that one, it's phantastic! But the longer the show lasts, the more they behave like.. but don't let's get off-topic too much!  ;D

Yes, this concert is not my favourite, despite high praise for "The last OZ" everywhere.
The band is tired, the synth effects are too much, the clothing is ridiculous, and the music is not that great.
Take TOL, for instance - whereas the band could improve on the (already excellent) Alchemy version for the BIA tour (see Wembley'85), with more elaborated solo, backing vocals, break... here in Sydney'86 I don't like the guitar tone and the licks are too convoluted, to the point that I prefer Alchemy by far.
Take BIA, whereas in Wembley'85 the finale was very rocking, here it is quite a bore - to the point that I prefer the "On the night" version by far.
Still, these are the only versions of Ride Across the River and Industrial Deasease we have on video... nice ! and yes, the SFA version is the only and only one that is worth listening to :)

Yeah, the Sydney show is tired sounding.  I suppose it comes from playing all those nights in the same venue and the band settling into a lazy routine.

I'm surprised they wanted this show to be filmed - they were bound to realise the boredom of playing about 20 nights in the same place!

It's not good for a touring band to stay that long at the same town/venue. You can see that at the RAH stint. Aren't the last shows always weaker than the first ones? Can't remember, only attended one RAH show so far... (that will change in a few days he he)
