i can understand your point about forums, but for that people can use the RSS feed (what i do for all trackers and forums i am on ,as well as for internet news papers) it is supereasy, you just get a notice of every article, thread, news that happens, and based on the first few lines you decide whether you want ot dive into or not. you cannot miss a thing. but yes, i too would like to know what happened to the list and to thomas molin...
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I miss the TR mailing list too. But as I see Tomas Molin's website is down for the first time from such a long time...it seems something seriously happened there... :(

Hi,
as far as I know the TRoad Mailinglist was hosted for free on a server in Germany which belonged to Udo Kempen

Tomas once told in a mail to the TRoad that udo was seriously ill, and could not care for the list for a longer time. I think he simply forgot about it when the the company was sold. I remember that Ingo once had a "@comtron.net" email adress, maybe he knows more about it?

Well, they say nostalgia ain't what it used to be, and I have fond memories of the TR list as well - it was my first experience really of the power of the internet and of making new friends in other countries through it.

That said, I think you have to move with the times, and I find forums much easier to use, much easier to reply to things and if you are not interested in a subject you don't have to scroll through it.

Can anybody remember the name of the mad guy who led to the extreme moderation? He kept posting all this wacky political stuff which eventually forced a vote as to who would run the list (which Tomas won).

Also, what ever happened to Hazel from Newcastle who was a regula poster on the list?

Interesting, I can't add much as I only became a member of the TR list in 2005. I still have all of the messages from when I was a member as many users wrote long show reviews during the Shangri-La tour. (including yours truly  :))

The funny thing I remember about TR was that I always used to receive messages from the list in "digest form", but I could never figure out how to change that option. There must have been a way to receive individual messages as people seemed to reply to each other instantly inside the digest.

It did come back briefly late last year (2007), but died again. I seem to recall that Tomas kept a record of all messages on his site.
(Although I think some were censored or missing.)

I remember Hazel fondly and miss her insights.

The name of the first TR list owner was Frosty. He worked at a university; I think it might have been in Tennessee. I emailed him once or twice.

I also miss the list and the friends there; some of them are on the MK-related forums of nowadays, but not all of them are.

I was worried at first when TR went down that Tomas was ill, but he finally answered me once and said he was OK. Perhaps he just had too many other things to worry about in his life when he began having difficulties keeping TR going and simply gave up. I know it was quite a drain on him trying to moderate it, and I thank him for running it for all those years.

Here is the original information if anyone passes through this thread and is curious about what the TR list was.
(You obviously can't use any of the features in the page.)

It is sad to lose the pages of Tomas Molin and Thomas Gygax. They were quite informational on past MK/DS things and on trading.
