Fireworks with Money for nothing
« on: August 19, 2013, 05:51:05 PM »
During holidays, I saw the fireworks at Cannes the 15/08.

The fireworks in itself was average, but it had the particularity to get a "sountrack"

it started with a voice speaking like a rdio announcer (in french) : "you are on fireworks radio, and tonight will be an hommage to the 80ies. first we begin with The buggles...."

My first thought was "ah music with fireworks. yes good idea. And the 80ies ? well maybe Dire Straits ?....Nah, it can't be, the french masive public is not very into DS. The french 80ies revival is more focused on cheesy french singers like Emile & Images, Lio,jeanne mas, JP Mader, Goldman, etc...I know that all these names are unknown for you ducth, english, american, deutsch, spanish, italian, and rest of the world, but I know frenchies will understand what I mean. When you talk "80ies" to french people (I mean people in the street, not on a forum dedicated to music), they immediately think to the film "stars 80" or the tour of the same name, with all these singers/bands....aaaargh, ...sigh

so, first song : Buggles, ok 80ies trademark
2nd song : depeche mode / just can't get enough, well same zone I'd say
then Inxs / I need you tonight, idem
then A-ha / take on me, idem

then....."the mythic Dire straits with Money for nothing !"

oh God ! where is my video camera ? ah yes here it is. My daughter turned back "there is for all tastes, isn't it dad ?"

the mention of Sting, the drum intro, the guitar, the first verse, the first chorus...and.......................

........................ Desireles / voyages !!!!  :smack :smack :smack

oh no MFN linked to voyages voyages ! the person who mixed that soundtrack has really a good taste !  ;D ;D :smack :disbelief :disbelief

then a song I didn't recognize, then every breath you take, then Midgnight Oil, another song I didn't recognize, a classical piece, another song I didn't recognize, Joe Dassin  :smack :disbelief, Europe, and another song I didn't recognize

you can watch the video here :

http://www.festival-pyrotechnique-cannes.com/fr/prix-du-public/luso-pirotecnia

you can see the playlist with songs I didn't recognize

anyway it was great to hear DS at this occasion

few days after, in family, my duaghter said to cousins :"dad filmed only when it was lusic he liked, and he didn't film when it was muisc he disliked " of course, who would have done other way ?  ;D

I have to rectify : I filmed when it was good music only, that's all  ;D

Thanks for that.  Just watched the video (from about 7:10) and it goes surprisingly pretty well with fireworks I think!  Brought back memories of some nice holidays in Cannes for me too, and I also recall the weekly fireworks.
"...and I blew up the radio in pretty short order."

Thanks a lot JF,,,,,that's what you can call a firework show. :thumbsup
its very difficult to get firework like this into the air at the (exact) right time ,for several (security/safety) reason.
But this looks really nice.
And I knew al the songs (except Et si tu n

All great songs! The dj did a fine job! Bananarama were fair, but the Shocking blue original version is a killer song. Enter Sandman is 90ies (1991) ... And born to be alive 70ies (1979)
Come on, it is not funny anymore.
