my love for Gilmour
« on: December 07, 2013, 07:04:46 PM »
gee i love this man's playing.
here a for his standards, bad example:

good stufff as of 1 hour 34 minutes.
then that wailing sound as of 1:37...(one hour 37 that is)
too bad my favorite show ending song, run like hell is not on it.
then again, it is on here (Venice 89):

as of 1:20:31....love that....
another proof of his prowess.

any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I love Gilmour too, but I think that his better era was with Waters IMHO

I think you read Bjorn's latest article about DSOT, and even I like some moments on it (like the waling or "dying bombs" sound), I must admit that this late 80ies sound is not my cuppa

I know that many fans love Comfotably num, but it's not my fav. I prefer Echoes, Dogs, Shine one, Time, and even Money

Tour 72, Wembley 74 and 75, Animals tour, that was a sound

and after the live8 in 2005, with the retrun of the black strat, I find that he returned to his early sound.
I'd say that his tone on remember that night is more "authentic" than during 80ies

Yes indeed, the "0001" strat si not the very first one, but surely an early one ! earlier than Marks' jurassic strat (which is from the first year of production though)
and Marooned is played with the whammy pedal. I love how Gilmour uses it.

i get you on the eighties period. but have to say some of his solo stuff, is really, really good. and his latest on an island, although not entirely great, has awesome parts on it, and of course the tour was brilliant!

Animals must be my favorite album as well, but I have worn out all others, so it might be because of this. Comfortably numb has my favorite PF guitar solo but I prefer the Pulse version, though, very well constructed and the whale sound hits me every time at the tears nerve center. And non of Gilmours albums, not even On an Island ever came close to the Pros and cons or Amused to death, sorry to say, because no matter how Clapton and Beck covered, they weren't Gilmour. But I like his calmness and that he kept going without Roger, because even though Momentary was very unfocused, he came up with the goods with Division.
A pity they had to split up. We would have at least 4 great PF albums.
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

signs of life on momentary lapse as well as sorrow on that same album are my favorites.
a very, very underestimated album is the soundtrack Obscured by clouds, it is brilliant from start to finish. go check it out and let me know your thoughts.
