Basel '92 - I watched this on Christmas Eve '92 and probably watched it every day for months afterwards - I was just so besotted with MK and his guitar!

Cant agree with you enough Val, this concert was televised for us brits on Channel 4 and my word it blew my mind! Remember my music hating father at the time saying 'who is that playing guitar?'

The rest is history!!

Have got a lovely copy of this on DVD which I incidentally play through my Blu-Ray player in glorious 3D!!! WOW!!

I remember watching this on C4 too and was so annoyed by the fact that they had edited it.  I had a copy on VHS until fairly recently and watched gobsmacked at how they cut the percussion and final MK solo from CE - poor Danny!  It finished so abruptly did they really think they'd get away with it?  No TR either! :disbelief

No TR, but there were lots of compensations - Great BIA, SOS and MFN and frankly at that time I didn't miss TR because I was so entranced by the show.  Anyway, I have the full concert recording now, but I still like the one I saw first best of all!   :)

Thats odd, my dvd copy has TR on it. In fact it features a storming end solo from the man himself!!
Can't remember what was played and what wasnt on the tv programme....

TR and R&J and a few others were definitely not on either of the televised versions - the first was Christmas Eve '92 and the second around Easter '93.   You probably have the Veronica version that I have of the whole concert.  :)

All the bootlegs are sourced from European broadcasts I guess.  Some have the channel in the top corner of the screen.  Certainly my version was cut and where I live in those days we never got a good reception on C4 either! ;D

Well I'm not sure if I have a "all time favourite MK live concert".

I rather have all time favourite songs versions, because there's not really a tour on which I like all songs, but rather songs from a tour, and songs from another.

for example, my ultimate live bootleg would be :

Sultans from alchemy or from 96
Tunnel of love from Uniondale
Portobello Belle from Paris 83
OUATITW from Alchemy
TR from Alchemy or RAH 96
WDYTG from Wisebaden 81 1st night
BIA, MFN, WOL from Mandela
RATR from London 22/12/85
INR from London 82
Water of love from Vaison 96
R&J from Mandela, or RLRR, or RAH 96
SFA from sydney 86 or Wembley 85
Expresso love from 85
one word from london 85
WWE from Emerald city 80
Six blade knife from 17.02.79
STP from Boothbay 2006 or toronto 2001
Donegan's gone from roma 2005 or promo tour 2007
Going home from alchemy or Hamburg 96
Calling Elvis from vaison 96 or RAH 96
Angel of mercy and news from werchter 81

etc...etc..

I f I had to choose ONE among entire gigs :

Lyon july 1996. there's no existing recording, but the best MK gig I attended so far, and I bet it was nearly Vaison in term of setlist/versions

my other favourites are :

Barbarellas 78
Rotterdam 78
Amsterdam 79
Emerald city 80
Wiesbaden 81
Werchter 81
Alchemy
London 85
Mandela
Dublin 91
Vaison 96

The full concert was broadcast live on Sky (my friend had Sky and taped it for me :) )

C4 showed a cut version at Christmas.  :(

For shows I've attended I'll go for

Aberdeen 96 - GH tour the best in terms of set list, energy and small venues.
First RAH 2013 - Everyone who wasn't there must be wondering what all the fuss was about.
Special mention for the Ronnie Scott shows.

In terms of boots I'll go for Hamburg 96 and Basel 92.

I'd rather go for separate songs than shows, but here are some of mine:

1. On Location Tour: 29-06-1981, Milan
Bootleg: The Greatest Rock 'N Roll Orchestra
Great setlist, featuring many oldies, but also what would become Private Investigations and a rocking Telegraph Road.
Sad thing is that the quality of the bootleg isn't that high, but still nice listening to.

2. Mandela Concert: 11-06-1988, London
Just love the energy on here. Sad thing is Sultans not being played on a strat, but the overall concert is just fantastic. Clapton is definitely doing a great job on here!

3. On Every Street Tour: 26-08-1991, Dublin
Bootleg: Straits To The Point
In my opinion the best full concert of Dire Straits, I love the setlist (Why Worry, Setting Me Up, I Think I Love You To Much, Planet Of New Orleans) and the concert just rocks!
On the bootleg the audience is mixed in way to loud, which is a little annoying, but it's fun to hear them singing along.  It always gives me goosebumps during Brothers In Arms (especially the "field of destruction").

4. Golden Heart Tour: 15-04-1996, London (BBC)
I just love the addition of all the other musicians, it's a bit over the top, but that's okay :)

5. Golden Heart Tour: 03-08-1996, Vaison

6. Sailing To Philadelphia Tour: 16-06-2001, Hamburg
Best version of Telegraph Road around and Speedway At Nazareth is definitely cool too, sad it's so short...

7. Shangri-La Tour: 10-06-2005, Milan
One of the few versions of Walk of Life I really like, because of the accordeon: it's different than you would expect, but very pleasant to hear. And the setlist is just great too.

8. Privateering Tour: 07-06-2013, Zwolle
Only MK concert I've ever been too and I had a great evening! Speedway At Nazareth and Telegraph Road rock.

Separate songs:

- Going Home (Lucca 2013)
- Haul Away (Helsinki 2013) -> very nice vocals
- If This Is Goodbye (Boothbay)
- Private Investigations (10-07-1985, London) -> great overdriven guitar, better than the rest of the tour
- Song For Sonny Liston (Helsinki 2013) -> very rough version
- The Man's Too Strong (Walk On Stage bootleg) -> the blues harp is fantastic
- The Man's Too Strong (10-07-1985, London) -> very nice drumming
- Wild Theme (Encores)
- Wild Theme (Boothbay)

It was the first live concert I had, and I **love** the reverb on it. It is from the 'Gro

Ingo, am I right that this was the "other" night, not the TV-broadcasted one? I have that recording, too, and I love the extended version of Six Blade Knife on it...

Mine is "alchemy"   :thumbsup :thumbsup  It's the only live concert I go back to listen over and over and never get bored with it.  The energy level in that show was just unbelievable.  If I could travel back in time, that's where I want to be.  ;D ;D ;D

For me the question is too hard. The concerts I enjoyed have the best memories. But there were a lot from 1985 till now.
1985 Rotterdam  :thumbsup Don't know which one from the 1996 I did, but those were great too. And this year, pfffff, even harder to choose. Must be Las Vegas because of the great memories, handshake of Mark, great company in the US from a lot of friends. But also Z

Yes, one day after the Rockpalast TV show, same city (Cologne) but different venue: Ropckpalast - a small WDR TV studio called studio L, and the next day in the large radio broadcasting room that was also famous for classical radio concerts. When it was built in the 1950ies it was considererd as as an acoustical sensation.

There are a few changes to some songs, I guess to make the live radio broadcast match a given time (extended soli in Six blade knife and Eastbound Train, long drum intro on What's the matter with you, Baby)

--> Can everyone who has this recording do me a favour and check the following: I wonder if there is another version around than "mine", with mine I mean the version I made in the 90ies, the intro of DTTW is from the vinyl bootleg, the rest from a rebroadcast from the 80ies, with Southbound being faded out. I had another tape decades ago with the full Southbound but it disappeared, so does anyone have the ending of Southbound?
