I always wonder if that song is for his uncle Alfred the brother of Erwin, Mark‘s dad. He was a watchmaker and died in the holocaust.
I know that Mark often talks about his uncle Freddie, but never heard him talk about Alfred.

Interesting, and, if true, pretty obvious that he might indeed be portrayed in that song. I never heard about him and his life, so thank you very much for posting. Where did you get the information from?
