Sultans Of Swing. I thought a lot about this song. There's no reason for me try to beat all the great lessons on this song, all the good covers on this song, because this is the type of situation where I'm completely useless. But, with that said, I thought about summing up my thoughts about Mark's music in general and share it "as is". I know this video will upset many people, but for those who get it: thanks for watching! Pavel.

Another easy strummer today, Piper To The End. I remember crying over this song 10 years ago when Get Lucky album came out, but I got the album earlier and listened to it while enjoying starry nights in August. Unforgettable experience, unforgettable song, always gets me. Can't believe it's been 10 years already, but life goes so fast. Spend your time playing, listening and learning great songs and thank you for all the support, it keeps me (musically) going. Pavel.

The song Communiqué has one of the hardest MK riffs yet, I even got a blister on my left hand index finger. I have a recording of me playing Communiqué riff about 11 years ago and needless to say it was terrible... It's much better now, but still could be better. How many times I've already said "it's one of the most enjoyable songs to play"? But it really is, another classic from Mark which is extremely enjoyable to play, the man just knows how to craft a song.

Song for today is Southbound Again, one of Mark's "geography" songs from the very first album. I've recorded two songs today, one is this one, from the debut album and the other is from Down The Road Wherever, from the latest album. Pretty funny if you ask me, jumping between 40 years of music. What stays is the quality of this music... You already know, that's why I'm here. Southbound Again is a very easy song, but with no evidence of live recordings done with studio arrangement it's hard to make it out. But to me it only adds challenge and I'm ready to deliver this song. Again, no evidence means that I'm not sure about all of it, maybe I'm 100% wrong, but this is part of the fun. Enjoy! Pavel.

The song number 50 is Just A Boy Away From Home from Down The Road Wherever album. First, can you name another songwriter worth doing 50 lessons about his songs? I can't believe it myself, and it's only the beginning! Dozens and dozens of other great MK songs left. And this is another one of them. As this is sort of anniversary song for me, I wanted to do something special, and as I never force the ideas, the idea came fast and I just did what I wanted to do — recreate the song in Guitar Pro, the software I'm familiar with for half of my life. Especially with this song being a solo guitar highlight of the album. I just thought — I'd want to play this solo! So you take a guitar, learn the tuning, buy a slide, transcribe the song and play it, play it, play it. That’s the way that you live and learn. Pavel.

Romeo And Juliet is the ultimate Mark Knopfler Song. It has… Signature acoustic guitar playing, signature guitar itself, signature electric guitar soloing, signature lyrics, the song is about love, it has obvious literary influence, musical influence, movie influence, it was written while “playing around shapes”, it has signature AABAAB structure, beautiful arrangement, one-of-a kind ending with rare modulation (to E Major), it has odd tuning, and the list goes on… No video can cover everything in this song, because it would take hours to cover every little detail, but of course the main source for inspiration is the famous and beloved National guitar part, and so I discuss it with all my passion, I hope you’ll find it interesting. Thanks for watching! Pavel.

Thank youuu! It's very important to me, because it's very natural for me to do it. This video was recorded right after my Birthday party, so no pressure at all :lol

A russian guy with a golden ear
And a gibson jumbo - standard gear
He been helpin’ us for a few years
Wish I could offer him a beer!

Romeo, baloney or heart of oak
Knopflers tricks - he knows them all
Never for him a heavy toll
He makes us rock and roll!

Always seeking challenges to engage
Like Mark’s songs - better with age
But care, the guy’s no joke..
He’s on the official page!

Love you Pavel, best of luck to your projects
Really hope you do “the Boxer” next!
