A revealing interview with Knoplfer in 1983,

Among several subjects, highlight the shows in Palais des Sports Paris France in June 1983, which according to Mark, were recorded with studio mobile, this opens the hope that this record will be published someday, would be audio or video? In any case, it would be amazing to contemplate! :lol

Thanks for the interview! Some things just beats me:

Quote
I gave half of my producer rights to "Love Over Gold" to Neil Dorfsman, the sound engineer, because he had been able to help us in a very constructive way. Me, anyway, I have enough money and you know I do not have luxury tastes.

What is the origin of your name?

Knopfler is a German-born name, but my father is an immigrated Hungarian Jew. Knopfier, in German it is the manufacturer of buttons, much like a tailor.

 :lol

You want to become the masked guitarist?

Not especially. Do not forget that I have a very identifiable style: when I play, most people can recognize me.

You're still playing for hours and hours alone in your room?

What do you think, I'm still the same Knopfler.

We already knew Paris shows were recorded as Portobello belle live from MFN compilation comes from one of the Paris 83 concerts.

I read somewhere that many of the European shows from 1983 were recorded with the mobile and when the moment to choose arrived MK was so tired that said "just use the last one from London"
You might get lucky, now and then

For as long as the rights still belong to Mark we will never touch it. Maybe when the rights revert to Universal. Anything other than that? The odds are zero.

The "revealing" interview is from 1983, so yes, zero possibilities

Not sure. I can't say exatly when Mark took over the DS tape owning. But at the time of OES, the recording sessions were financed (ie produced) by Mark and John (and much probably Ed), not the record company. That mean that "they" owns the unreleased master tape and much probably the record company has no copy of them.

So the question is, in 82/83 who financed the live recordings?

I am not aware of the contend of the contracts but it seems that Ed secured quite early artistic control of the band over the released work.

According to the Mike Oldfield book, after the Communique album recording at least in the studio was paid for by the band. Presumably then some kind of license was issued to the record company to sell on but it is probably not that straightforward.

I didn't know it depended on who financed the recording, it's different in my country. So that means it will never be released unless whoever inherits Mark's copyrights decides to do so, which is rather unlikely.

I didn't know that! Wow, thank god he did it, that atmosphere is unreplicable (don't even know if the word exists lol)!
