After that MFN video in HD, and the streaming uploads, I'd say something is coming with this website...

A few hints on Guys website that MK has not totally dismissed release of old material and also that the record company are aware of the shitty bootlegs currently filling the gap they could make money from on Amazon

From Guys website in relation to archive recordings:

"We are well aware of the demand for such recordings. I can tell you that this matter IS being discussed. The legacy of any band of this stature is naturally very important to record labels"

For what it's worth i'd be after:

Mandela 88
A full Live in 85/6 concert (London Dec 85 / NYC 85 / Sydney 86)
Something from the On Location Tour
OES tour outtakes
Demos and outtakes

All issued with a high quality vinyl release

Not aware any of the London December '85 gigs being recorded - July 10th yes, usually referred to as Wembley '85.
Never liked the Sydney show; tired performance, short ToL.
Must be enough from the OES tour to take up a dozen CD's if you include the Paris, Nîmes and Rotterdam shows.  :P
Let's not forget the Madrid 2001 DVD and the other shows recorded for overdubs - Glasgow, Newcastle and Bilbao(?).

This site is only going to be worth it if they make available the "Holy Grail" bootlegs, some of which I've listed above.  We already have most available pro-recorded performances.  One wonders what is still surviving and what they can lay their hands on and then get rights to... :think

I know a lot of those shows I listed only exist in audience as we know of ; but I'm sure there are more soundboard recordings we don't know about or have access to. Paris 83 and the OES outtakes for example

It'd be good to know if there actually are any gems we don't know of though.  I have my doubts that this site will reveal very much except for better quality than we already have; nothing new.

Maybe I'm getting old (and I am) but growing up in the days of videotapes I could've lived perfectly well with the old MFN video.  That sort of thing doesn't interest me - it's new material I crave.

It seems like Springsteen and E-Street recorded every show they done back in the day. We get a constant flow of archive material from them on Nugs.net

Can only hope DS done similar and we don't know about it (yet).

The official site has been launched, further than that mailing list form, it's very little content by now, but it's a start!

More sections to follow.

Want!

I'm curious about this website, though. Why now? So late? Who is the initiator? John?

The DS site has been hijacked many years ago and the people who run the MK official site did their best to legally recover the domain and use it to represent the band, but as they were busy with the last MK tour and other stuff (they run the official sites of many many many other artists as well) they didn't had time to start it. The site has been just with the mailing list form for many many times, waiting to do something else. Now the site started, just with the shop, but will have many other sections soon.

Yes, it's late, but better late than never!

I'm thinking more about the whole idea behind it. Surely Mark doesn't care, as far as we know, but since Mark and John are Dire Straits on paper, Mark must have given his approval. Could there be a financial motive on John's part?
