I can not explain it but I feel it. The music is emotions and feelings.
I understand what you are getting at; the JJ Cale tribute clip has a touch of that early DS vibe (Six Blade Knife for example), not so strange since Mark obviously was influenced by JJ Cale back then. BUT - Mark and DS took things further, even on the first DS record, and breathed more life into things compared with JJ Cale.
One recent song of Mark's that is somewhat in that vein is Behind With the Rent, which is one of my favorites from KTGC. It is also quite lazy and laidback, but still a lot more interesting and better sounding than the JJ Cale tribute song. To my ears, that is.
