Meaning of the songs
« on: September 20, 2018, 02:15:28 PM »
We are already talking about the meaning of "Good on you son" as with the lyrics is easier to do, but with the titles maybe we can dig something before:

 1.Trapper Man

I found that trapper has a meaning similar than drug dealer, maybe it's something metaphoric...

 2.Back On The Dance Floor

 3.Nobody’s Child

4.Just A Boy Away From Home

We know this talks about a Liverpool guy that lives in Newcastle, and is a Liverpool FC supporter and miss his city

 5.When You Leave

 6.Good On You Son

About director Robert Day? Apparently about a British that grew up in a poor enviroment and ends in LA being succesful

 7.My Bacon Roll

 8.Nobody Does That

 9.Drovers’ Road

According to wikipedia, a Drover's road is "  is a route for droving livestock on foot from one place to another, such as to market or between summer and winter pasture (see transhumance). Many drovers' roads were ancient routes of unknown age; others are known to date back to medieval or more recent times"

10.One Song At A Time

MK mentions that comes from someone Chet Atkins said to him, like he got to be succesful one song at a time, little by little

11.Floating Away

12.Slow Learner

13.Heavy Up

14.Matchstick Man

Someone who pretend to be something he is not? A pretender?

15.Every Heart In The Room

16.Rear View Mirror

17.Don’t Suck Me In

18.Sky And Water

19.Pale Imitation

There is apparently one song about is DS days, acoording to the interview.

I love such considerations. The tracks are long and I'm happy. Probably Mark wrote a lot.
I know the way I can see by the moonlight
Clear as the day
Now come on woman, come follow me home

16 - Rear View Mirror:

Maybe a song on one of Mark's favorite subject: car races.
We know he has participated to Le Mans classic race and he already made several songs on this subject:
 - Speedway At Nazareth
 - The Car Was The One
 - Border Reiver (about truck)
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Since Tracker we had one single thread for every song with the lyrics in the first post to discuss etc.,for  example see the Long Cool Girl Thread from this morning. I would suggest to repeat that with the new album as it is very well structured?

“But Down The Road Wherever seems to be appropriate for me, just because it’s what I’ve always done. I’ve always tried to make a record and also to keep my own geography happening in the songs.”

I think this sentence is the key. There will be many autobiographical songs
I know the way I can see by the moonlight
Clear as the day
Now come on woman, come follow me home

Yes, but we can do that when the record is released and we have the lyrics.

This one is just to guess about it and it can be taken as a start for the future threads for each song.

Don't you think?

19.Pale Imitation

Is it again about tribute bands like in "Terminal of Tribute To" ?

With that description in mind, Drover's Road should sound like a cross-over between Border Reiver and Yon Two Crows, which would be great.

14.Matchstick Man

Someone who pretend to be something he is not? A pretender?

With absolutely no basis for this, I am going to guess this one is about Donald Trump.  Kind of like "Don't Crash the Ambulance" was about the Bushes.
Talk soft, carry a big stick, and pack the biggest gun.

I can not stop thinking which song refers to DS to Deptford.
I know the way I can see by the moonlight
