Where did you read it?

Today Universal sent to radio stations

@quizzaciously the beginning and end is not a shuffle, the beat is half-time :)

Exactly! I call it shuffle because of the Purdie Shuffle as in many of the songs he played in...

Here's a great video of him 'splaining his version of half-time beat. I love it so much so I just call is a shuffle. Hope it makes sense :lol

By the way, the tone of the drums and the feel is strikingly similar to Back On The Dance Floor.

yes half-time

shuffle is meant for non-straight time. In french we call it "ternary"

by the way did you notice that in the whole DS discography, there are only 3 songs in shuffle time : Fade to black, My parties, and Bernadette

I'm not a music expert by any means, I know a lot of chords and a little theory which is enough to play all what I ever wanted to play. And I don't know a lot about rhythms and stuff... But if you ask me, I love the term "shuffle" a million times more than the term "half-time", so I'd call it like that even if it's completely wrong. I hear Back On The Dance Floor intro and the first word that comes to my mind — shuffle.

I know it's all subjective, and we all like different things and yada yada yada...

But no way is BOTD as good as What It Is. Never  in a million years. What It Is is classic Knopfler.

I had a listen to WII now. It's actually a song that I never took a liking to. I think it's the amount of lyrics; it's such a "mouthful" (no pun intended), so much crammed in that it's difficult to process it all. That said, the music is classic Knopfler as dusty said, even classic Dire Straits. It reminds me a bit of Tunnel of Love to be honest, the way it builds up, subsides and builds up again.

Then again, there's just something cool about Back On The Dance Floor that appeals to me. It may not be a better song, if judged by some objective standard, but if it moves you, who cares?

I like both but that's the truth right there.  Different class.

Listening to both the new songs for a wee while now I tend to lean toward GOYS as my favourite.

I realise it’s all my fault that people are comparing BOTDF with WII. I really didn’t mean to suggest that they were similar songs, merely that I rated them as amongst the most commercial things that MK has done during his solo career. I happen to like them both a lot, and WII has been something I’ve listened to a lot over a long period, especially whenever I’m arriving in Edinburgh (where I shall be again next Spring to see a certain musical). Personally, I won’t know if Dance Floor is in the same class till I’ve listened to it over a longer period, and hopefully heard it live. But I do know it's good. I enjoy GOYS, but I don’t get the same Adrenalin rush from it.

First time i heard i thought "This is how a JJ Cale / Dire Straits song would sound if it were recorded on 2018". Very surprising in a good way. It sounds like a lost track from OES. Honestly, after Privateering and Tracker, i ended believing that i would never hear something like that from MK again.

Glad i was wrong.
And we have just one world...
