Sideman's Corner
« on: October 15, 2018, 05:58:21 PM »
A thread for when we spot one of the many session musicians who have played with MK over the years, not playing with MK.

To kick things off, here's a young Phil Palmer on a cracking Jim Diamond track.

Love that.  Memories of Sunday night and settling down to another episode of Boon.

Boon was great. Wonder how it holds up these days.

And of course there is the MK/Jim Diamond Auf Wiedersehen, Pet connection.

Check out Phil Palmer again below, this time with David Gilmour on the astounding track Marooned, it also has Ian Thomas playing drums!!!

Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Still, not really like he is doing the great playing. By the way, anyone else noticed marks latest dig at the legacy troup, on the new cd, forgot which song?

One Song At A Time.

Or any more poor old fakers
Trying to dance in my old shoes
I’ll be gone over the ocean
With the transatlantic blues

You could almost pick anything out of Nashville and one of the 96ers will be in there.

I would like to lift (not Sonny Landreth this time)

Mike Henderson, who co-wrote Broken Halos together with Chris Stapleton. It won a Grammy this year for best Country song. It has 63 million plays on Spotify. Almost as many as R&J.

Good on him! Well deserved success.

Which leads me straight to RB being a part of the humorous country supergroup The Notorious Cherry Bombs. And in this video he's got a cameo as a hair dresser.

Also, Vince Gill 😂

This album (vol 1) is all kinds of excellent.

Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson are amazing contemporary artists who are keeping country alive.

Amen to that!

Steve Earle is my second favourite artist.

When I met RB backstage in Newcastle in 2008 I asked him what he thought of Earle's (then) latest album.

He said "You know, I think it's the best thing he's ever done"

I gave my opinion that while it was good, it wasn't as good as Guitar Town (which RB coproduced) and he thanked me for that.

Guitar Town is a perfect album, not one bad song on it, and while it's heresy round here, I don't think MK has ever made as good a record as that.
