I initially thought it was 2nd only to STP but the initial novelty has worn off and there are a few tracks I just don't like and all three bonus songs are among my favourites.  Quite sad really that the songs were there so it had the potential to be right up there.  Still rate this album highly though, much better than the last couple.

He should've scrapped these for the three bonus songs:

Just a boy
When you leave
Floating away
Slow learner
Heavy up
Rear view mirror
"I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order."

Down The Road Wherever is all the way down for me as you've may expected. From the last 3 albums I like Tracker more.

The rest is history and I don't know how to rank it really... In terms of songs quality Shangri-La is probably my №1 ever. In terms of production also Shangri-La. The best photoshoot — Shangri-La. Man, if you come to think of it, it's the best Mark's album ever and it has a song which Bob Dylan called his favourite Mark's song. Enough said...

Way too early for me to answer that. I need at least some months. Privateering for example was very high in my ranking but has totally lost since then. The other older ones are much too beloved to rank them.
Golden Heart is very far away.
I try nevertheless:

                      STP     RPD
                         Tracker

                      Shangri-La

                          DTRW
                             GL

                     Privateeting

                      KTGC      GH

Funnily enough, we have opposite tastes. Shangri-La is my least favorite, although I love it (this is a MK album !). But it find it too dry, lacking the emotion of TRD. Of course it has some brillant songs, like BLT, 5.15am and Postcards !
And I really love DTRW. I would rank it above GL, because of its diversity and also for OSAAT, that might be his greatest solo song: Border Reiver is great as a catchy opener; Piper to the End is great as an emotional closer. OSAAT has the genius to perfectly blend them together: both catchy and emotional, great opener or closer, with clever and touching lyrics about Mark's debuts. Absolutely brilliant. So I would rank as follows:
STP
TRD
DTRW
GL
P
GH
Tracker
KTKC
SL

It is hard to rank albums because there are songs on each of them that i would not want to miss.. but right now without overthinking the decisions i would say:

1. Down the road wherever
2. Get Lucky, Privateering
3. Shangri-La, Ragpickers dream

Great Question! I've had a few listens now and I'm really likign this new record, it's pretty up there for me but in the list it woudl go something like this:

Shangri La - I think this is my favourite songwriting record...
STP - The most DS like of the Solo Records I think? Was I write in remembering there was rumours of a DS reunion around this time?
DTRW/Tracker - to me these last 2 records have been really great, will be interesting to see how DTRW stands up to the test of time for me.

Then .... Everything else with GH being top of that list, there are songs I love on all the records though :)

I like DTRW but other albums please me much more.

1   Tracker
2   RPD
3   Privateering
4   DTRW
5   Golden Heart
6   Shangri-La
7   Get Lucky
8   STP
9   Kill to Get Crimson

Difficult, because I like songs from every album.   There are songs on DTRW that I am tiring of already and I am reaching for the skip button more often, especially Slow Learner, whereas for Tracker I just listen all the way through and never tire of listening - that's my yardstick!  :)

1- Sailing to Philadelphia  :clap
2- Down the Road Wherever, Golden Heart and Shangri-La  ;D
5- Tracker, Privateering and Get Lucky  ;)
8- The Ragpicker's Dream  :think
9- Kill to Get Crimson  :disbelief

The very only one I never ever revisit is KTGC. TRD gets a listen every second year or so. All the others are on the top of my list, I love saying hi to them every now and then.

I like KTGC pretty much. I think many people don't like it because it's the farthest from DS sounds (and I do agree with that) but when you concentrate only on the melodies I think basically all are nice and interesting.
