SOFT TOP HARD SHOULDER - Chris Rea
Hadn't seen this until I saw the movie of the same name this week. To me he sounds as close to MK's tone, phrasing and style than almost anything else he has released.

Great song, I can hear the Dire Straits sound too. Another Knopfler link is that Peter Capaldi is in it, and he is in Local Hero.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

I love this Guy, to me, he's the one who sounds the most like Mark.
If you have never listened to "Daytona" go to minute 2:10 and close your eyes, they share the same passion for cars.

If I realised that the chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in

To me, the sound of this recording reminds me of John Illsley's latest solo albums.

Yes I agree! They seem to have shared interests/influences at various times throughout their careers...

Chris has stated many times that if there's a musician he'd wanted to be it would be Mark Knopfler, obviously MK influence is pretty huge throughout his life like for many of us. However, Mark seems to not bother at all and I've never seen him saying anything about Chris. Which is also a common practice :lol

There was talk of a merger/collaboration between the two but they couldn't agree on a suitable band name  ;)

Sorry for rehashing dreadful old jokes....
