I am impatiently waiting for Mark to finally drop a song by the Arctic Monkeys. Like, I am 10000% sure he does have some of their records in his backpack. That bastard son of Bob Dylan called Alex Turner sure does know how to write lyrics from another planet. Stuff like A Certain Romance (Glastonbury version) is so unreal I can’t wait what does Mark think of him/them.

There was a bonus song, not on the list - Bill Broonzy!     ;D     I'm really enjoying this episode - thanks jbaent!

I found it interesting that Mark introduced the Big Bill Broonzy song "Going Down This Road"  song by quoting the lines:

"I'm goin' where the chilly wind don't blow, baby
I'm goin' where the chilly wind don't blow, no more
I ain't gonna be treated this-a way
I'm goin' where the weather suites my clothes, baby
I'm goin' where the weather suites my clothes, tomorrow"

It made me think of Mark's song Get Lucky.

"And when I feel them chilly winds
Where the weather goes I'll follow"

Makes me think this artist and song may have served as an influence...

Mark plays a version of this at 7:28 of part 1 of the  A Life In Song documentary, he also plays Get Lucky.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Thanks James! How cool is that!?

He does a pretty good imitation of Big Bill's singing too, for a Geordie boy!

Even Mark can't help but comment on that "And that's it." line after Feel Like Going Home demo LOL. Intimate versions like that are absolutely fascinating. Reminds me of Bridge Over Troubled Water demo by Paul Simon on guitar, or his René Magritte song, or Paul McCartney's rendition of "The Long And Winding Road" on some talk show with only a piano and his voice. Something great about stripped down versions of ballads. Speaking of ballads, can't agree more with Mark on playing slow... That gets absolutely obvious in jazz, where to play ballads you have to be a virtuoso no less.

After a very busy week Mark`s very relaxed 20st episode was just perfect for me.
I really enjoyed every song, but especially  loved the wonderful demo version of Charlie Rich`s "Feel like going home" and the great Otis Redding tune.
It doesn`t get better. Thanks, Mark!  :-*

If somebody would pay me each time Mark says "outfit" in this programme, I would be a millionaire by this point :lol

I noticed that too!     It can become a tad irritating after a while, but I love listening to him anyway!    ;)

It's difficult to say, but is Mark reading a script during these shows?

I'd say yes, just because it would eliminate most of retakes, mistakes and pauses, because having a full episode in the head is a bit of overkill when you can just script it and write it down. Because of that, by the way, I treat this show a bit like an audiobook, it gives me a feeling that Mark reads a book or something, which only makes me want a book from Mark, narrated by him of course. That would be a blast!
