Mark and Holly Vincent
« on: November 26, 2020, 12:29:46 AM »
few weeks ago, I published a chronicle about the song "Romeo and Juliet on my blog (in french)

A fan contacted me (in fact, the fan who won the sultans guitar contest some years ago, and had the chance to meet Mark at BG studios) and provided infos I didn't know :
Mark met Holly Vincent for the first time not in 78, but in 73 when he was looking for a guitar job in bands (same period he would play with Brewer droop)
This info comes from Jackie Badger's blog :
https://jackiebadgersblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/first-gig-of-new-decade-for-us-is.html

"Holly and I advertise ourselves as a female rhythm section looking for a guitarist singer, we get quite a lot of replies, all male who seemed to find us puzzling, amusing and/or a novelty. Mark Knopfler was one of them, we could tell he was good but didn't think he was for us, although he took to Holly in a big way. This photo is from 5 years later with me and my husband on the left and Mark Knopfler and Holly on the right."

with that info, you can hear this sentance on another level : "Juliet, The dice was loaded from the start "

Maybe Mark meant that he "knew" that their relationship couldn't resist to a long time, knowing that their first met "didn't work"

I uptaded my article with this info : https://textes-blog-rock-n-roll.fr/une-chanson-a-la-loupe-romeo-and-juliet-de-dire-straits/

JF I really like reading your articles. I love thorough analysis. Maybe someday some more analyzes from MK solo albums? :)

Excellent JF, thanks for the update  :thumbsup
If I realised that the chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in

Thanks.
Yes I planned to review all DS/MK ablbums.
But as I cant' do them all at the same time, I take the opportunity of anniversaries with "round" numbers : 0 or 5.
That's why this year, I published reviews from BIA, Making movies, STP, NHB and Neck & Neck, and also gigs I attended in 2005 and 2010
Next year I will write about Golden Heart, OES, STP tour
So, as I started these reviews in 2019, around 2024, I wil have reviewed all albums  :) (except the next ones to come  :P)

I also planned analysis about songs in particular. I already wrote about SOS, TOL, R&J, EL, PI, and MFN
the next one on my list is TR  8)

If my memories are correct Holly was about ten years younger than Mark. She must have been 13 or 14 wenn she met Mark.
But perhaps I am wrong about he age.

Google is your friend :)

She was 18 when she met Mark the first time. She was born in 1956.
