That's unfair indeed. I remember it being yesterday... I met my wife 10 years ago shortly after Privateering was released. Ten years already, man! ???

Weak entry with odds and ends thrown together regardless of quality in order to make up a double.  A single disc would have been advisable imho.

I was shocked recently when I learned another song for my channel, it was Seattle from Privateering album. And I found an interview with Mark or Guy, can't remember who it was exactly, but it said there was actually a plan for a proper blues album at the time, but Mark ditched it for some reason and opted for a double album instead. So the theory that it would be nice to have blues track on their own wasn't just an urban legend, but a part of the plan. Which, unfortunately, was canceled.

There are lots of great songs on Privateering that I love - Yon Two Crows, Submariner,  Haul Away, Seattle, Redbud Tree (just to mention a few), but the blues tracks are mostly skippers for me.
That's just a matter of taste.
This is all the heaven we've got right here where we are in our shangri-la.

It's kind of a strange album. It's has a number of good songs, but the double disc was a bad idea. And Redbud Tree, which is a nice little song, feels totally out of place on that album. Especially as an opener. Musically and thematically. I need to put the blues songs and rockers in a playlist and see how that works.

Love this album!
Always reminds me of the age of sail and discovery between the XV and XVIII centuries. Legends of pirates, kingdoms (of gold), buccaneers and their ships. Being Portuguese, these themes are very close to me.

Occupation Blues.

"Des paroles qui parlent du marché noir sous l’occupation allemande en France durant la seconde guerre mondiale"

How do we know it's France?

His best album in my opinion. His longest, but ironically the only one of his albums that isn’t too long. Great songs, great sound.

Maybe I 'm wrong but I think that when we talk about "occupation", it's mostly about France. At least it's the first country that comes to mind. I know that others countries have been occupated during WWIII, but the music has some french flavour in it imho

ok maybe  I am a little bit influenced because I'm french  :)

I think the song has a universal character.

I think the song has a universal character.

Yes because I thought it reminds me of some Russian songs and Eastern Europe in general. Probably Hungary.
