We don't know if the EP will be a separate album. Maybe these will be additional songs, like for example on the Tracker album. Or maybe it will be a bonus album like on Get Lucky or Privateering and Down The Road Wherever.

Bonus disc is still a part of an album, it's not an EP. But either way, it's really better to separate some tunes rather than put everything on a double/triple album.

Yes you are right. If the EP is only 4 songs? I want more!!!! :)
where does it say 4 songs????
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I meant that the EP tradition is usually 4 songs.

What do we think about the new EP? I think it will contain 4, 5, or 6 songs. anymore and it can really be an album, also, do we think this could be rush released? before the album? maybe a digital and CD only thing to get around waiting for the Vinyl delay.
Where did we hear the news about an EP?

Wag the Dog had 8 songs

The CD did, but it's standard for films to have small cues, tiny snippets of music, that don't end up on a soundtrack album.

in the vinyl days yes, but today, EP doesn't really mean such a number of songs imho

some current EPs released nowadays have 5, 6, 7 or even 8 songs

I think that labels begin to talk about "albums " when you have 10 songs (with average lenghts of course)

That's true. EP ExtendedanceEPlay was only available on vinyl at first and I remember it well. I also called the EP Comfort And Joy MK (three compositions) :)

Definitions of an EP all came from the vinyl era. Three songs would make a maxi Single, from 4 tracks  on it was indeed called an EP. The term "EP" alone shows that MK thinks more in terms of the vinyl releases of his younger years. He mentioned those old EP's he still has on his mantlepiece. Of course in digital times the EP lost its relevance. The What it is Single would have been a real EP if it had been released on vinyl and on it's own. In 2000, those 4 tracks were just a "single".

I think it is clear that this will be an EP of all new songs, I am looking forward to whatever is on it.

I'm predicting 5x new songs and those that couldn't get on the new album...

Indeed it does go back to Vinyl days LE, in fact I've got a fine collection of The Shadows EP's or 'Extended Plays' all consisting of 4-5 tunes.

Very nice. MK's first record was a Donnie Lonegan EP which he still has on his mantlepiece. There is something about this release form that attracts me very much. In earlier days they just released them much quicker and didn't need to have a 6-year-gap from the last release. Maybe MK discovers that it would be nice to release more EP's. With touring done, an album release incl. Tour shouldn't spend two or three years time anymore. An album/mini album/EP every year  would keep the Get-a-Lifers happy!
