STP 25th anniversary
« on: May 16, 2025, 08:56:23 AM »
As long as Guy made a reference to be mixing, at least in atmos, the Sailing to Philadelphia record for its 25th anniversary, I thought it might be appropiate to open a new thread to speculate about it, alñthough we already made that in the Guy's Forum Thread...

As long as we know, it would have a bluray edition with atmos mixes, which would be great, I expect it to be better or at least as good as Chuck Ainlay 5.1 mixes of the record:

DVD-Audio: https://www.discogs.com/release/3626303-Mark-Knopfler-Sailing-To-Philadelphia

Thinking about the BIA mew edition, than included the San Antonio concert, there is a chance that, if they found the tapes, one of the live recordings could be added:

Madrid: https://www.guyfletcher.com/las-ventas-bullring-madrid-spain/
Bilbao: https://www.guyfletcher.com/bullring-bilbao-spain/
Glasgow: https://www.guyfletcher.com/clyde-auditorium-glasgow-uk/
Newcastle: https://www.guyfletcher.com/city-hall-newcastle-uk/

And the most ideal would be that they include bonus tracks like:

The bonus tracks in "What it is" cd-single: https://www.discogs.com/master/46542-Mark-Knopfler-What-It-Is

The original versions of "Red Staggerwing" and "Donkeytown", that are different from the ones released in "All the roadrunning": https://www.discogs.com/release/33645492-Mark-Knopfler-Sailing-to-Philadelphia

The studio version of "Pyroman"

The studio version of an unreleased song, that was considered for the live tour but never played "Bonafide"

Any of the other known unreleased songs: https://www.amarkintime.org/forum/index.php?topic=7214.0

All these, obviously, if they find the tapes LOL

So, these are the chances

1/ Just the bluray atmos edition
2/ Original cd + live concert
3/ Original cd + already released bonus tracks
4/ Original cd +  already released bonus tracks + unreleased songs
5/ Original cd +  live concert + already released bonus tracks
6/Original cd +  live concert + already released bonus tracks + unreleased songs

My wishing edition would be the 6, that would make a great box to be released!, but I think that the most likely are options 1, 2 or 3.

LOL

I think someone had suggested these to Guy before, and Guy didn't answer.

I guess that, like when he worked with the live box material, it depends on what the record company give to him.

I'll bet that would be just the Blu-ray, and as maximum, the cd plus a live concert.

Maybe a September release, to coincide with the exact 25th anniversary?  :think

There wasn't anything for the Golden Heart 25th anniversary.
And there was the Shepherd's Bush Concert in 96 which misses a proper Blu-Ray release-
Why now a STP 25th anni release? It would be awesome and I had the same in mind for months.
It is still my fave and I want this Madrid concert eagerly. On Blu and on vinyl

STP was a massive (3 million) sale success compared to Golden Heart.

I had forgotten about this thread. We definitely won't get the bonus songs because we have them boxed. We certainly won't get songs previously unreleased. But I believe in the concert from this tour. I believe: 2/ Original cd + live concert   :)

I can imagine it something completely different and being 'countrified' for the album with EH.

Was the infamous Bonfire Night from these sessions too?  I can't recall now.
