Downsize pictures
« on: November 12, 2009, 11:48:19 AM »
Hi all,

Because you all know much more about this stuff than I do the following question:

My pictures from my camera have big sizes (between 1 and 2 MB). I would like to downsize some of them so I can mail them easier. Does anyone know a free program which I can download to do so? If possible a program that is a-technical-types-proof  ;D

Thanks in advance,
Ingrid

You can use MS paint (comes with every windows version I guess). Open the picture in paint, then go to (and now I switch to Dutch because of my windows version ;D ) afbeelding / formaat wijzigen. Type in the percentage you like to change (50% or so) and there you are! :D

Thanks dear, sounds pretty idiot-proof  :D

Think I have an old version, don't have "formaat wijzigen" anywhere  >:(

But ........ with Microsoft Image manager it does say something like this.
I just choose the picture, right mouse button and open with ...
It came with this Image manager, didn't even know it exists but it works  :D

I tried this one and it's real good, but as far as I understood it's only free for 15 days, but that's enough for now for me  :D

Maybe you can use PixResizer (http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm). It can downsize a whole folder of pics to the size of your choice at once...
Or an alternative: Photographer's Power Toys (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Editors/Photographers-Power-Toys.shtml), it can do a lot more than just resize one or more pics (things like rename, add watermarks...)

Been using both for a long time!

Cheers
Kris

Hey, I just saw this thread. Ingrid, do you have MS Office 2003 or 2007? If you go to "Microsoft Office Tools" under "Microsoft Office" in the start menu and choose "Microsoft Office Picture Manager", you can resize images there. Just select "Edit pictures..." at the top and choose "Resize" on the right side at the bottom.

Thanks Dan, that worked out great. I use 2003  ::) but it works well.
